Billy Ray Gann, 81, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at his home in Lexington, Kentucky. Born February 2, 1944 in Scott County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Roy Spencer and Leona Mable Kelly Gann. Billy served in the United States Army where he received several medals and commendations, some of those included Aircraft Crewman Badge, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. On September 25, 1962 Billy began his career with Johnson Controls. During his 40 years with the company, he spent most of his career in the Press Shop (Department 7), he also spent some time working in welding. Billy was a member of the American Legion Post #24 in Georgetown. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the American Legion, fishing, and loved his UK Wildcats.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Roy Davis Gann, brother, Sammy Gann, and sister, Fannie Coy. Billy will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Darlene (Rudy) Sharpe, Charlene (Ronnie) Harney, Ben Gann, Dale (Jennifer) Gann, Kendall (Nita) Gann, great-nephew, Michael Sharpe, daughter, Tracie Cannon, loving companion of 35 years, Linda Ruth, daughters, Claire Bell, Kim Hornback, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 17, 2025 also at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Sadieville Cemetery where pallbearers will be, Mike Lee, Ron Hardwick, Ben Gann, Michael Sharpe, Kendall Gann, Dale Gann, and Korbyn Sharpe. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Sharp, Billy Parish, Mark Lee, John Ward, Jimmy Swinford, Mike Leaverton, and Ron Sharp. Friends and family are encouraged to leave messages of condolence and share memories here on Billy's tribute wall.
