Bon Chan, born on May 5, 1928, passed peacefully surrounded by family on the morning of Saturday, November 23, 2024. She enjoyed a long fulfilling life of 96 years, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and resilience.
Bon Chan was born in Tmor Kol, Kandal Province, Cambodia and moved to the United States in 1981, settling first in Gretna, Louisiana, before making her home in Lowell, Massachusetts, where she spent most of her life surrounded by family and friends. Throughout her life, she found joy in simple, beautiful acts. She loved sewing, cooking, and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A devoted Buddhist, Bon Chan believed deeply in compassion and generosity. She contributed regularly to her local temple and gave to charities that supported her hometown, Tmor Kol. She lived her life by the values of kindness, finding purpose in helping those in need, and leaving a lasting impact on her community.
Bon Chan is survived by her five children: Sophan Som of Cambodia; Sivann Kim of California; and Sarath Chea, Dennis Saro Chea, and Sary Chea of Massachusetts. She is also remembered by 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren who continue to carry forward her spirit of compassion and generosity. Her kind presence and gentle mannerisms will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024 from 3:30 – 4:30 PM at Dolan Funeral Home, 106 Middlesex Street, N. Chelmsford, MA 01863. Followed by a traditional Buddhist ceremony from 4:30 PM at Wat Khmer Samaki Santikaram, 85 Tyngsboro Road, N. Chelmsford, MA 01863. Funeral services will be 8:00 AM on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Wat Khmer Samaki Santikaram, 85 Tyngsboro Road, N. Chelmsford, MA 01863. Followed by her burial in Westlawn II Cemetery, Lowell, MA. ARRANGMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 978-251-4041. Guestbook at www.dolanfuneralhome.com
