It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Brenda Morris Mickey, 73, who departed this life peacefully on September 13, 2025. Born on May 31, 1952, to the late Harry Lee Morris Sr. and Winnie Poindexter Morris, Brenda was a devoted wife, cherished mother, loving “Meme,” and faithful friend to many.
Brenda was a proud graduate of North Forsyth High School and Appalachian State University. Guided by her love of learning and commitment to helping others, she went on to earn a master’s degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She devoted her career to teaching, where she touched countless lives with her dedication, patience, and encouragement. A lifelong learner and passionate reader, Brenda was also a respected professional who inspired those around her.
Brenda was a devout member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, where she found comfort, strength, and lasting friendships through her faith. Her spiritual journey deeply enriched her own life and the lives of those around her. Remembered for her sharp wit, gentle kindness, and boundless compassion, Brenda brought joy wherever she went. She treasured time spent with family and friends, creating moments of laughter and love that will be cherished forever. Her favorite retreat was Ocean Isle Beach, a beloved place where she found peace and created countless family memories. Above all, Brenda’s greatest devotion was to her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Her legacy of love, faith, and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Harry Morris Jr, and Jeff Morris.
Brenda is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Ted Mickey; two children, Drew Mickey (Nikki) and Katy Stanley (Bryan); two grandchildren, Cade Stanley and Nora Stanley; four nieces and nephews, Trey Morris (Kristin), Kenny Morris (Katie), Joie Stevens (Brent) and Kelly Padget; two sisters-in law, Cheryl Morris and Lynn Creech; a special cousin, Susie Holloway (Al); and two special caretakers Michelle and Gloria.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Morris Chapel United Methodist church with Pastor Jeff Coppley and Samantha Wesley officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 3:00pm prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Trellis Supportive Care at 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
