Brian Timothy Clements – age 64, died in a tragic accident on Friday, May 31, 2024, on his Lilla May Farm, on the Cumberland River near Ashland City.
He is survived by his wife, Miranda Clements, and their children, Rebecca and Jack. His is also survived by his mother, Janice (Stodghill) Clements of Evansville, Indiana; his brother and wife, Terry and Christine Clements, also of Evansville, Indiana, and their three sons and his sister, Tina Al-Fayyomi of Columbus, Ohio, and her three children. He is predeceased by his father, Harold Clements and his uncle Bill (William Stodghill of Clarksville, Indiana). Other survivors include many close friends and extended family.
Brian grew up in St. Peters, Missouri where he spent his childhood playing outside with his siblings and neighborhood friends. The family backyard and woods were always a fun adventure. He learned his life skills from his parents: hard work ethic, do it yourself skills, and compassion. He achieved Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow and hiked the trails of Philmont as a Boy Scout. He played lead trumpet in the Francis Howell High School Band, spending numerous hours outside in the driveway prior to band practice. At the age of 16, Brian moved with his family to Rough River, Kentucky where he helped in the development and operation of the new family business, Clements Marine. Brian's first contribution to the business was the painting of the entrance floor with various logos. He attended Breckinridge County
High School and after an adventurous solo motorcycle trip to California and back, he decided to pursue his dream of becoming an architect. He enrolled in University of Kentucky and through hard work and dedication, graduated in 1985 and became a licensed architect.
Brian and Miranda met in Chattanooga and married in 1993. Their daughter, Rebecca Ann was born in 1996 and filled their lives with joy. More joy came with the birth of Jack Francis in 2001 and the four of them lived in Chattanooga, Bowling Green, and Nashville, with family trips to the beach, China, Spain and two driving trips in their mini van all through Mexico. Brian and the family cat, Ash, were very connected and spent many pleasant hours napping on the sofa together. Brian will be missed by his many relatives whom he spent many weekends and holidays with at the kids' grandparents' homes at Rough River and Wartrace.
Brian established his architecture firm in Chattanooga in the early 1990s. He had 30 years of practice as an award-winning architect designing residential, commercial, and public projects in Tennessee and Kentucky. He was currently serving as Principal Architect and Owner of Clements-Wimsatt Architects in Nashville with his long-time business partner, Jacob Wimsatt.
Brian was a long-time member of Unity of Nashville's Men's Group. Brian opened his heart and soul in support of the men in the group. Brian was an adventurous connector among his friends around fun, travel, cars, and spiritual growth. Brian helped form a small Buddhist Sangha from among his friends going to Magnolia Grove Monastery. Brian was a safe and comforting influence with others. Brian brought a sense of humor, authenticity, intelligence, humility, kindness and caring to his relationships. For many he was like a kind big brother and trusted friend. Paraphrasing Thich Nhat Hanh; the "cloud" of Brian will always remain in the "tea" of our lives. Brian continues to be loved by the many people whose lives he touched.

Spencer's Coffee Shop in Bowling Green holds a special place in my heart from my university days. It was always a delight to frequently run into Brian there. We would spontaneously share a cup of coffee and discuss our lives and my studies. Although we both eventually moved away and those moments became memories, I recently had a similar experience with Brian at a restaurant in Nashville. It was a beautiful reminder that, while the world can often seem vast, such cherished moments make it feel wonderfully small.

Brian possessed a calmness that was palpable. His groundedness was a strong foundation for passionately and steadfastly growing his dreams and goals. Some of my favorite times in the 31 years since he became my brother-in-law was our annual family camping trips to Topsail State Preserve Park in Santa Rosa, Florida. Much love to all who loved him. Brian, may your spirit be buoyed by love as you move into your next adventure.

I miss you, my brother from another mother. My heart is heavy and deeply sadden. We had many hours of enlightened conversations, the fun times on the road together, and the Sangha you help form during these short few years. I will always have those wonderful memories embedded in my heart and soul. Thank you for helping me become a better person along the way from within the Men´s Group and beyond that circle.

Brian and I have grown as men in a men's group that we've been a part of. His life, his compassion, and even our disagreements have enriched my life in ways that cannot be adequately measured. His passing leaves a hole in my heart.
