Mr. Troy Brooks Shelnutt, age 80, of Franklin passed away April 15, 2025.
His funeral will be held Tuesday April 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Stutts Funeral Home with Bro. David Parmer officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Church of Christ Cemetery.
The family will accept guests at Stutts Funeral Home Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
Mr. Shelnutt was born September 25, 1944 in Randolph County, AL to the late John Dorsey Shelnutt and Grace Richardson Shelnutt. He attended High Point Church of God.
He was a proud veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Fort Bragg and was a paratrooper in the 101'st Airborne Division (the Screaming Eagles).
He was a man who loved to work with his hands. He served as a foreman for Caldwell Tanks, a job that required him to be a proficient welder. He also drove a truck when needed.
At home his passion was cars. He loved anything related to classic muscle cars and racing. More often than not you would find him listening to the latest NASCAR race while working underneath his latest restoration project.
He saved his most precious moments for his family. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren traveling and fishing. He was also pretty good in the kitchen and could cook the most delicious cornbread and hand-rolled biscuits. He was known as a selfless man who would do anything for anyone in their time of need.
Survivors include: a son, Cory Paul Shelnutt of Franklin; three grandchildren: Troy Shelnutt, Hollis Shelnutt, and Lake Shelnutt; one sister, Ann McCord (Danny) of Woodland; two brothers, Blake Shelnutt of LaGrange and Brack Shelnutt (Lawanna) of Woodland; a special nephew, Curtis Leonard, Jr.; and a number of other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Dustin Shelnutt; a daughter, Angela Hope Shelnutt; four sisters: Faye Leonard, Lila Whitaker, Genelle Shelnutt, and Gail Higgins; and four brothers: Buck Shelnutt, Paul Shelnutt, Dean Shelnutt, Sr., and Bobby Shelnutt.
