Bruce David Buchholz
February 11, 1957 – October 1, 2025
Bruce David Buchholz, 68, of Norcross, Georgia, beloved husband of Susan Buchholz (née Benson), tragically passed away on October 1, 2025.
Bruce was born on February 11, 1957, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Glen and Norma Buchholz. Bruce lived his childhood years in Milwaukee, WI, Toledo, OH, and Pittsburgh, PA. His family eventually settled in Wilbraham, MA, where he graduated from Minnechaug High School in 1975.
Bruce went on to attend the University of Hartford in West Hartford, CT. Like most of his life, Bruce filled his college years with learning, friendship, and occasional mischief. He graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1979. He made lifelong friends who will miss him dearly at the annual Super Bowl party. He made the national news after registering the University's mascot in fall semester courses. Best of all, Bruce met the love his life, Susan, through mutual friends early in his freshman year.
Bruce and Susan shared 44 loving years of marriage. Together, they raised their son, Casey, who is their pride and joy. Living as a family for 21 years in Granby, CT, they enjoyed spending time outdoors, evenings by the firepit, and tapping maple trees in the early spring. On weekends, they traveled all over New England and beyond for Casey's hockey and lacrosse games. They made their best memories of those years on Nantucket, spending many Thanksgivings, New Years, and summer vacations there.
Bruce began his career with Combustion Engineering in Windsor, CT, where he worked as an engineer before earning his MBA in Economics and Finance from the University of Hartford in 1989. Over the next 26 years, he held various management positions at companies in the power generation industry. At the time of his passing, Bruce was employed by Vanderlande Industries in Marietta, GA, spearheading multiple airport baggage claim installation projects in the Southeast. Bruce's career made him a world-traveler: Paris, Algiers, Dubai, Surabaya, Delhi, Hong Kong, Beijing, Sydney, to name just a few. Bruce's true passion was people, he found purpose in his career through mentoring colleagues and watching them succeed.
Bruce was always doing something. His go-to activities were swimming, hiking, cycling, and skiing. Bruce's favorite pastime was golf, which he learned to play with his brother, Brad, as a child in Wisconsin. Bruce also took up many hobbies throughout his life. He played the saxophone (poorly). He photographed and sketched his gardens. He made canned pickles, peaches, jam, and apple sauce; all will be missed by the whole family. Always looking for a new project, Bruce hoped to spend his retirement gardening, beekeeping, and restoring bicycles.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Susan; his son Casey and fiancée Mary Kidd; his devoted canine companion, Lady Brett; his brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Debbie Buchholz; his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Bill Coleman; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Rob Marshall; his brother-in-law, Andrew Benson; his sister-in-law, Kirsten Benson; his sister-in-law, Lauren Benson; his brother-in-law, Herman Benson; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lisa and Neil Paulson. Bruce is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews whom he loved very much.
Besides his parents, Bruce is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Dick Benson, and his mother-in-law, Marguerite Benson.
Bruce's energy, generosity, and kindhearted nature will be sorely missed. His spirit lives on in the love he shared, the creativity he inspired, and the memories he made with all of us.
A celebration of Bruce's life will be held at a later date in Connecticut, where family, friends, and colleagues will be invited to gather, share stories, and honor his life.
