Bruce Romond Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc. - Canandaigua on May 7, 2022.
Bruce Romond, aged 70, died unexpectedly on May 2, 2022, at Jupiter Medical Center. Bruce was born in Mineola, New York, to Joseph Eugene and Dorothy Henry Romond. As a child, Bruce loved riding bikes in the neighborhood and spending time with his older brother, Robert (Bob) Romond. At age 8 his family moved to Cherry Hill, NJ, where he attended Cherry Hill East High School as a member of their first freshman class.

Bruce graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, where during his first year he met Judith Hanlon, the love of his life. His caring heart and open smile warmed the hearts of Judi's parents and eleven siblings, and he quickly learned the joy of being part of a large family. He later formed "The Outlaw" club with those who married into the Hanlon Family. They went on to win an award for best clams at the Hanlon family's annual corn roast, where everybody was a winner.

In the summer following graduation, the two were married at Saint Ambrose Church in Rochester, NY. After the wedding, Bruce and Judi moved to Northern Virginia, where Bruce worked in the management training program for Sears Roebuck. They started a family of their own in 1979, with their son Joseph (Jessica), followed by son Mark (Sara), and daughter Patricia. Bruce truly delighted in his children and shined in his role of father-to-three. Bruce joined the UARCO sales force and was later transferred to Northern New Jersey. "I will always remember Bruce for his desire to be the best he could be for the benefit of his much-loved family" stated Larry Dille, VP of sales. Bruce was transferred to Illinois as part of a select team created to launch business forms into the digital age. In 1997, Bruce transitioned from print to digital with General Binding Corporation/ACCO Brands. He retired at age 62 to Jupiter, Florida.

During retirement, Bruce quickly formed lasting friendships. He enjoyed working part-time at Home Depot and riding two-up with Judi on his Harley. He loved hosting out-of-town visitors, taking them to the beach and local nature preserves. He was devoted to his five beloved grandchildren: Tre, Thomas, Imogen, Leo, and Freyja. He was a loving uncle to Bob's son Brian (Sara), and great-uncle to Brian's children: Haleigh, Andrew, and Evan, as well as all of his treasured Hanlon nieces and nephews.

Bruce called himself "a simple man", and all who knew him understood he was a man of integrity, courage, and strength. He was always ready to lend a listening ear, and he showed his love through quiet acts of service. His smile lit up every room he entered; he will be remembered as a shining light in the world. Bruce faced it all, and he stood tall; he did it his way.

Friends may call Sunday, May 15, from 3-5 pm, at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. His memorial mass will be celebrated Monday, May 16, at 11 am, at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua. Whenever I saw Bruce during my shift at Home Depot, he never hesitated to give me a cheerful greeting. My days were always brighter because of him.

So sorry to hear of Bruce´s passing. My heart goes out to Judy and the entire family.
As a young boy I always looked up to my favorite cousin Bruce. I thought he was so cool with his red Austin Healey sports car he had in high school and this crazy hovercraft contraption he made with an old lawn mower engine and a kitchen chair on top. Holidays at the Romond´s were always the best, wether it was skating on the pond behind the Cherry Hill house or watching our parents enjoy just a few Schaefer´s.
Then, when he came to our home town of Pittsburgh to go to college, it just added to the cool factor. He met Judy right away so he didn´t come out to visit us in the burbs as much as I would have liked...gee, I wonder why.
I do remember him just shaking his head when my sister Patty named her pet Guinea Pig Bruce after him.
Bruce was an awesome guy and we were all better for having got to know him. He will be sorely missed.
Rest in peace cous.
