Bryant Nathaniel Johnson
August 12, 1966 – December 20, 2024
Bryant Nathaniel Johnson, son of the late Willie Nathaniel Johnson and Nancy Hill Johnson, passed away on Friday, December 20, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on August 12, 1966, and at the age of 12 was baptized by his father. Bryant was a member of Church of Christ, Gate City, VA, Eastside Church of Christ, Nashville, TN, and more recently Abingdon Church of Christ, Abingdon, VA.
After moving to Glade Spring, Bryant attended Meadowview Elementary School and Patrick Henry High School, where he excelled in football and track. Bryant rushed for over one thousand yards as a member of the Patrick Henry Rebel football team in the fall of 1983. His most notable performance was in a win against the Gate City Blue Devils. The score was 27-0. Bryant was the Virginia High School League (VHSL) group AA triple jump champion in the spring of 1984. Upon graduating from Patrick Henry High School, Bryant attended Tennessee State University. He resided and worked in Nashville until he returned to Glade Spring, VA in 2022.
In addition to his mother, Bryant is survived by his son Broderick (Marquita); daughters, Autumn and Ashley; former wife Debbie Lyon; his grandchildren, Ashton, and Kamden; several aunts, cousins, and dear friends also survive him.
A viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel, 427 E Main St. Abingdon, VA. A memorial service will be held at Abingdon Church of Christ, 19508 Dennison Drive, Abingdon, VA on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 12:00 PM with Ministers Nathan Liddell and Freddie Klein officiating. A repast will be held following the service in the fellowship hall.
