Burton E. Mead, 81, of Hopewell Twp. passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at his home.
Born in Bridgeton to the late Frederick Mead and Stella Fithian Mead, he had been a resident of Hopewell Twp. since 1970, prior to that he had lived in Bridgeton.
Prior to his retirement he had been a Heavy Equipment Operator with South State Construction for over 30 years. Before being employed with South State Construction he had worked for P.J. Ritter Co. for ten years. Burt had been a member of Teamsters Local Union No. 676.
Burt's first love was for fishing, especially on a boat in the bay at Fortescue. He had many fond memories fishing and hunting with his father and brother. He was very handy, building various things over the years from doll houses, miniature models, fishing nets and just about anything in between. He also enjoyed camping with his family. He was also quite the collector, especially of Hess Trucks, coins and family photos. Burt can be remembered fondly for his tough love, without that love, his children would not be the people they are today. He was a loving grandfather, who loved his grandchildren more than anything.
He is survived by; three children, Connie Mead of Hopewell Twp., Richard Mead (Kelly) of Deerfield Twp. and Karen Logan (Matthew) of Cape May Court House; brother, Joseph Mead of Commercial Twp.; sister, Betty Ann Rempfer (David) of Millville; grandchildren, Thomas, Brendan, Tyler, Joshua, Brittany, Elizabethe and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brogan, Aulora, Adaline, Lilah, Elliot, Theo and another on the way. He was preceded in death by; parents, Frederick and Stella Mead; and a grandson, Andrew Panichelli.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 28th at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services. Interment will take place at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Twp. following the services.
