Childers – Calvin P. Childers, age 87, of Kingsland, Georgia, was called home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2025. He was born on April 17, 1938, in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late Elia and Claud Childers.

While attending high school in South Carolina, he served in the Navy Reserve Service from 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957. After graduation from Slater Marietta High School in 1956, he worked as a pharmacy technician until he moved to Jacksonville, FL in the early 1960s. At that time, he became an optometrist and worked with Abernathy Shortridge Opticians.

After surrendering his life to Jesus Christ, he answered the Lord's call to ministry and became a Pastor in Jacksonville, FL in 1967. Calvin went on to become the founding Pastor of several churches in the Clay County area and faithfully served as Chaplain for the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary in Duval, Clay, and Nassau Counties. His ministry later extended overseas when the Lord led him to Southeastern Europe, where he served on the mission field with Hope for the World Mission Organization. Calvin's greatest joy was sharing the love of Jesus with everyone he met. He also had a deep love for music, especially old hymns, and was known for his heartfelt singing. Calvin is preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life, Sue Shipman Childers; son, Ricky Alan Childers; granddaughter, Jennifer Sue-Marie Williamson and brother, Dean Childers.

Calvin is survived by his daughters, Myra (Randy) Coe, Kimberly (Bill) Williamson; sister, Linda Johnson; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Calvin's life will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 11:00 am at Trinity Baptist Church 800 Hammond Blvd. with Pastor Richard Edwards, Pastor Jim Gibson and Brother Bill Wilkinson officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Ferreira Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Calvin's memory to Community Hospice Warner Center for Caring www.communityhospice.com. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Ferreira Funeral Services, 1320 Chaffee Road South, Jacksonville, FL, 32221, 904-378-7777.
