Carl Andrew Werther Jr. Born to Carl Sr. and Norma J. Werther on March 1, 1959 and Lockbourne Air Force Base and passed away at his Whitehall home April 9, 2023. Carl was a lifelong Whitehall resident, except for when his family lived in Pataskala for a few years in his youth. He took to the country life, walking the creek and fishing. The family moved back to Whitehall when Carl was in 8th grade.
He was involved in high school athletics and graduated from Whitehall Yearling High School in 1977. He then joined the Army to become, as he said, "a trained killer" – an Army cook. Carl was honorably discharged, and then served in the reserves for some time. He made a list of all the jobs he had over the years, a total of 36 jobs, the last being with the City of Columbus Water Division, where he retired with a disability.
He was a member of the Whitehall Historical Society. He was instrumental in the building of their Lustron home at Whitehall Community Park. He did so much for the city, but never wanted recognition for it. Carl also helped numerous people in recovery and spent countless hours volunteering at AA's central office. Carl was giving to a fault; if he had it and you needed it, you had it. He did not do things for recognition, but for the simple fact that people were in need, and he had a big heart.
Carl was the MASTER storyteller! You would be on the edge of your seat, listening in awe, just to find out that he had made the whole story up. To hear his "Woody Woodpecker" impersonation would cause a whole room to laugh. To say he was funny would not do him justice; he was the master of laughter.
He was one of a kind. You are forever loved, Carl Andrew Werther Jr and you will be truly missed by all of your family and friends.
Preceded in death by both parents, nephew Nathan Dickens Jr. and niece Cindy Poling. Survived by son Clint; sister Charlotte (Doug) Dickens, brother Patrick (Debbie) Werther, brother Paul (Jessica) Werther, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a showing at Evans Funeral Home 4171 E. Livingston Ave. Columbus, OH 43227 on Saturday, April 22, 2023 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM with an Honor Guard ceremony at 1:00 PM.
