Obituary published on Legacy.com by Osborne Funeral Home, PA - Williamsport on Oct. 3, 2025.
Carol Miller Obituary Carol grew up in South Bend, Indiana, the only daughter of Clement V. and Maxine (Weaver) Lovell. At a time when only 1.2% of women went to college, she graduated from Indiana University in 1950 with a degree in bacteriology and went to work as a research microbiologist at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis. She met David Miller, an Army veteran and publishers sales representative, at a dinner party, and they were married in May of 1952. They raised 5 sons together, before his death in 1992: Dean (Purcellville, VA), Mark (Greeneville, TN), Keith (Redwood City, CA), Kevin (Wheaton, IL), and Alan (Funkstown, MD). She was a den mother for Cub Scouts and active in the American Association of University Women (AAUW).
After living in Ann Arbor, MI, and Levittown, PA, the family moved to Williamsport in 1972. Later that year, at age 43, she had an encounter with Jesus Christ that redirected the second half of her life. She founded the Williamsport Food Bank and directed it for 10 years; served as president of the Hagerstown chapter of Aglow International; and taught Sunday school classes for adults and teens. She also served as an election judge and as president of the Williamsport Library Board.
Carol was then drawn to what she called "the process of inner healing as a means of bringing peace to troubled lives." To further develop skills of helping people, at age 67, she went to a training school in England for 6 months. She spent the rest of her life teaching, encouraging and blessing any who came for help.
Married almost 40 years, Carol outlived her husband, one daughter-in-law, and one grandson. She is survived by 5 sons and 5 daughters-in-law, 16 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her love of learning, trees and nature, strong black coffee at any hour of the day, good conversations, jigsaw puzzles, chocolate, The Chosen, and the art of Akiane.
When she nearly died in January 2024, she said, "Life in the Lord is worth everything. He has never, ever failed me. That is the reason my life turned out the way it did."
