Carol Ann "Kay" (Young) Strickland, age 79, much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on December 19th, 2024. She was born in Wilmington on September 22, 1945 to the late Cecelia M. (Kane) Young and George A. Young, Jr.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, Edward "Mickey" Strickland; her son, S. Edward Truszcienski, and daughter-in-law, Pamela; her daughter, Janet Kibler; her grandsons, Ryan Morales, Matthew Truszcienski and his fiancée, Amanda Avery; her granddaughter, Nicole Gosnell and her husband, Christian; her stepdaughter, Tracy Strickland; her great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Kinsley; her step-granddaughters, Katelynn and Rosalind; her nephew, Tim Galloway; and her nieces, Tamara Mele and Pamela Anderson. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward J. Galloway, Jr.
Kay graduated from St. Elizabeth's High School Class of 1963. She worked for many years in customer service for ICI Americas and Pioneer. She loved to read, especially political biographies and murder mysteries, and avidly followed politics. She kept her family warm for many years with her crocheted afghans, hats, and scarves. She loved Christmas and had a real tree every year, with tinsel, and proudly displayed her Dickens Village collection. Kay loved to watch football, especially the Philadelphia Eagles and her college teams, the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide. Her greatest love, however, was her family. Whatever their interests or endeavors, Kay was their biggest supporter and spoke proudly of their accomplishments.
Kay's family would especially like to thank Kimberlee and Larry Kelley for their kind and thoughtful care in her final days. They will be forever grateful.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, December 29th, 2024 from 1PM-3PM at the Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Ave., Wilmington, DE 19806. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 30th, 2024 at 11AM at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE 19804. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Hwy, New Castle, DE 19702.
