Carolee Kay Hart, 81 of Grand Ledge, MI, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, in Portland, MI. Born on July 23, 1943, in Lansing, Michigan, to the late Lyle and Reva (Boyer) Baxter, Carolee's life was a testament to the joy and warmth she brought to everyone around her.
She was a graduate of the Grand Ledge High School class of 1961, Carolee's dedication to her community was evident in her work. She served with a smile in customer service at Toys R Us, Olga's Kitchens, and Farm Bureau Insurance, where her kindness left a lasting impression on colleagues and customers alike.
Carolee's heart was always her family. Her love story with her late husband, Maurice Gary "Butch" Hart, spanned 43 beautiful years, filled with mutual devotion and happiness. Together, they raised a family that included their beloved children, Beth Aprill, Dale (Sue) Bassett, Todd (Debi) Bassett and Chad (Megan) Bassett. Carolee's joy multiplied with the birth of her grandchildren, Kyle, Emily, Lauren, Will, and Hunter, and she was blessed to see her legacy continue with her great-grandchildren, Aubrianna, Mitchell, RaeLynn, Charlotte, Kenna and Miranda.
Her brother, Stanley Baxter, remained an integral part of her life, sharing memories only siblings can cherish. Carolee was also preceded in death by her brothers, Vaughn (Harriet) and Larry Baxter, her sister, Norma (Albert) Marshall and close friends Sue Kemp and Sharon Upright, who had been important figures in her journey.
Throughout her life, Carolee nurtured friendships that stood the test of time. Her special friends, Larry and Erma Feneis, along with Mike and Mary Costigan, shared countless treasured moments, supporting each other through life's various seasons.
Carolee's interests were a reflection of her zest for life. She found joy in the simple pleasures of camping and was an enthusiastic participant in bingo and trips to the casino. Her love for soap operas and Wheel of Fortune provided daily entertainment, while Cugino's Italian Restaurant in Grand Ledge was a favored dining spot, indulging her love for good food and company. Carolee also relished the beauty of Michigan's outdoors, particularly at Orchard Beach in Manistee and Leisure Lake in Sumner, where she created many happy memories with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
A Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel, 301 E. Jefferson St, Grand Ledge, MI 48837. Carolee and I had been friends since elementary school. In high school, we used to practice our dance steps before we went to dances. Girls used to dance together back then! Later in life, we would get together for lunch.
