Obituary
Carolyn Ann was born June 22, 1944. She is the second child born to Richard and Virginia Davis. She joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized at the age of 10.
Ann attended New Hope Elementary School, Vine Jr. and graduated from Austin High School in 1962. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Tennessee State University in 1966. She later earned her Master of Science in Education from the University of Tennessee and advanced Education Specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University.
Her professional career in teaching Health and Physical Education began with Knoxville City Schools at Rule High School, and she later retired with Knox County Schools at South Doyle High School.
She was a long-time member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as head of the Kitchen Committee. Ann will forever be remembered for her love of cooking, especially those delicious cakes and rolls.
In December 1976, Ann married Douglas Chandler.
She was a dedicated member of her beloved sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated, Knoxville Alumnae Chapter, where she served as president from 2003-2008.
Ann served her community by participating in numerous service projects. Many who came in contact with her developed a loving and lasting relationship, always referring to her as Momma Chandler or Aunt Ann.
She loved playing and watching sports. Through the years, she played basketball, volleyball, and was an excellent bowler. Her pride and joy was her grandson, Jay, whom she was able to travel with to different states to watch him play basketball and attend his high school football games.
On the afternoon of August 26, 2023, she earned her wings and transitioned to her heavenly and everlasting life with her husband and daughter by her side.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Virginia Davis.
