On February 14, 2025, we said goodbye to a woman whose heart and soul touched countless lives. Caron Gayle Dvorak, at the age of 86, was a remarkable woman who lived a life rich in love, faith, and service to others. Born on September 1, 1928, to Katherine (Loose) and David Gillig in Flint, Michigan, Caron was the youngest of eight siblings, and from the very start, she proved to be a force of nature.
Her 86 years were filled with devotion - devotion to her family, to her faith, and to all those she served. A woman of deep Christian faith, Caron spent countless hours pouring her heart into Grand Ledge Baptist Church, where she led the choir and music department with grace, commitment, and joy. Her love for music knew no bounds. As an exceptional pianist and musician, Caron not only performed but taught, passing on her gift to countless students. She was a passionate instructor of the piano and organ, shaping generations of musicians who will always remember her guidance.
In addition to her musical contributions, Caron was also an avid tennis player and coach. For years, she was the heart and soul of the summer tennis program in Grand Ledge, and alongside her beloved husband Bill, she co-coached the Grand Ledge Girls Tennis team. Caron loved the game, but more than that, she loved the opportunity to mentor and encourage young athletes, teaching them the values of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork.
Her love for teaching didn't end with tennis. Caron was a beloved educator at Michigan State University, where she spent 15 years teaching German. She and Bill led an unforgettable exchange program to Lohne, Germany, where they connected GLHS students with German students and their families, creating bonds that transcended continents and years. She cherished her time and relationships she built with the people of Lohne. The people of Lohne demonstrated their admiration for her by honoring her with the "Key to the City" on one of her last trips to Lohne.
Despite all her many achievements, it was Caron's ability to connect with people that truly set her apart. Whether through her music, her teaching, or her tennis, Caron had a special gift for making everyone feel seen, heard, and valued. Her kindness, wit, wisdom, and vibrant energy left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Once you met her, you did not forget her.
Caron was preceded in death by her devoted husband of over 50 years, William Lee Dvorak, in 2013. Together, they built a life full of love, adventure, and shared passions. Their legacy will live on in the lives of their two sons, David and Douglas, and their families: David's wife Gina and their children Andrew and Kate, and Douglas' wife Paula and their children Adam, Jane, and Will.
Though Caron has now passed from this world, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched, the lessons she imparted, and the love she shared. She may no longer walk among us, but her influence is eternal. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held on Thursday April 10 from 6:00 – 8:30 PM at Grand Ledge Baptist Church.

Dear Dvorak family,

A former colleague of mine sent a mail, telling me that Caron passed away. I am deeply saddened and touched by this message and I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy for your loss.
I know Caron from the exchange program Grand Ledge and Lohne, in which I was involved for many years. The program started in 1981 and I got to know you parents when they accompanied a group of students to Lohne. My first trip to Grand Ledge was in 1992, and being in charge of the exchange we met regularly. We had a marvelous time in Grand Ledge as well as in Lohne and surrounding areas. The memories of all the wonderful trips in connection with the exchange are precious. Everybody who took part in the program enjoyed the company of both Bill and Caron very much. I will remember Caron´s sense of humor and the good talks we had.

My thoughts are with you and your family.

Sincerely
Renate Crewell
