We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:8

Carter Lynn Chafin, age 77, of Lebanon, Va., went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. He was born in Russell County, Va., on February 15, 1948, the son of the late John T. and Nellie Profitt Chafin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Carter Max Chafin; an infant son, Matthew Brandon Chafin; brothers, Eugene Chafin, James Chafin & wife Sandy; niece, Jamie Chafin; cousin, William "Bill" Chafin.

Carter was saved as a child and was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church. He loved music and over the years was a member of several different groups. As a teenager he belonged to the Jades, at Abingdon Senior Center he was in the Kytchen Sync. He also was in various gospel groups, including the most recent, The Williams Family.

He served his country in the Army and was in the Army reserves for two years. He worked at AEP Carbo Plant for 25 years. He was also self-employed; he did upholstery, woodworking, and many interesting projects. He was artistic and loved music, machines, gadgets, trucks and interesting challenges. His last employment was Kerry Jones Trucking. People loved Carter and he loved people, and first and foremost he loved the Lord. We will be with them both soon.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Sue Kegley Chafin; son, Jed Chafin and fiancée Kelly Rumley; Max's fiancée, Crystal Puckett; sister, Glenna Kiser and husband Winston.

Went to Cleveland high school with Carter and he was one that always had a smile on his face and just a fun person to know and call a friend. He has been a inspiration to many people and will be missed
