Catherine Desmond Franken, a cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, at the age of 99 in Old Bridge, NJ. Born on June 15, 1925, in Milltown, NJ, Catherine's life was marked by dedication to her family and community.
Catherine's professional life included her valued work as a clerk at JC Penney. She provided significant contribution as a secretary for the Raritan Arsenal during World War II. Her commitment to her roles was a testament to her strong work ethic and sense of responsibility.
Catherine is survived by her children, Rich Desmond & his wife Linda, Jack Desmond, Kevin Desmond & his wife Sue, Brian Desmond, and Jeanne Overly & her husband Ed; her brother, Alfred Schnatter; her adored grandchildren, Joanna, Matthew, Jim & his wife Kathy, Sean Sr. & his wife Mary; her blessed great-grandchildren, Melanie, Matthew, Miles, Philip, Sean Jr, and Ryan; and her cherished great-great-grandchildren, Adyson and Philip.
Catherine was predeceased by her late husbands, John Desmond in 1983, and Thomas Franken in 2020; her parents, Bernard & Josephine Schnatter; her brother Charles Schnatter and her sister Margaret Cochran-Schnatter.
Catherine's legacy of love, strength, and resilience will continue to live on through the lives of those she touched. Her memory will be forever cherished by her family and all who knew her.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 from 8:30am - 10:30am at Old Bridge Funeral Home, 2350 Rte 516, Old Bridge, NJ 08857. A prayer service will take place during that visitation at 9:00am at Old Bridge Funeral Home, 2350 Rte 516, Old Bridge, NJ 08857. A graveside burial will follow at 11:00am at Holy Cross Burial Park & Mausoleum, 840 Cranbury-South River Rd, East Brunswick, NJ 08831.
