Charles George Allen said goodbye to his loved ones on earth on May 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Allen, and his sister, Patricia Dennis. His survivors include his wife of 65 years, Muriel Hart Allen; sisters Mary Lou Pena and ShirleyMcLenithan; three daughters, Rebecca (Rick) Mousseau, Diane (Kevin) Griffin, and Carol (Jerry) Sohn; four grandchildren, Joel, Alex, Aaron and Erica, and one great-grand daughter. His extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews also mourn his passing.
George was born on November 2, 1928, grew up near Parker's Corners, and graduated from Fowlerville High School in 1946. He worked for the General Motors Proving Grounds for 38 years, during which time he served in Korea in the Army. A long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, George held many leadership positions and was always ready to serve God in whatever way was needed. He was committed to community service as an active member of the BPOE, the Howell Kiwanis Club, and the Howell Dyslexia Centerwhere he served as a board member for many years.
His interests were wide. As a young man he played in softball leagues, and became a competent bowler. He loved hunting, fishing, and any outdoor activity. His garden was legendary, especially the popcorn he grew and consumed with gusto. After retirement, he bought and operated a sawmill and used the lumber to make improvements on his beloved Pickford cabin. Additionally, he was a Civil War enthusiast who owned and read hundreds of books and visited dozens of battlefields. As a member of the Sons of Union Veterans, he made a project of recording, preserving, and refurbishing the gravesites of Union veterans. He belonged to two Civil War Roundtables.
George was above all a family man. He enjoyed nothing more than being with his family. Whether watching the Red Wings or Tigers, playing cribbage or cards, listening to the Hart Family Band, or enjoying a home-cooked meal, his sense of humor never failed to get us all laughing. We will remember his joy, his service, his love for God and His creation, and most of all, his love for us all.
A celebration of life will be held later this summer. Memorial contributions may be made in George's honor to either of the following: Be Our Guest Adult Day Services (part of Livingston County Catholic Charities).

George Allen was a man's man. Always spoke from both sides of his mouth and shot from his hip.
