Charles Timothy (Tim) Griffith, guitarist and founding member of Rosenberg's "Triumphs," died Friday, December 9, 2022. He was born in Bay City, Texas on July 28, 1944 to Sam Houston Griffith and Rosalie Gernand Griffith and spent his early years in Fort Worth before moving to Rosenberg in the mid-50s.
Tim attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School, class of 1962.
In 1959, Tim's dad gave him a Les Paul electric guitar. He started jamming with pals Denver Zatyka and Teddy Mensik. They added Tom Griffith, Don Drachenberg, and B.J. Thomas to the group, giving birth to the first version of the legendary Triumphs. The joy of entertaining with his music continued throughout Tim's life.
Tim attended Wharton County Junior College and the University of Houston. He began his career as a surveyor with TxDOT. He became a Registered Professional Land Surveyor after joining Kelly R. Kaluza and Associates in 1981. Tim was the only "associate" for a while but when the firm began expanding, he became vice-president, a position he held until his death.
Besides making music with the Triumphs, Tim's other great love was travel, especially long road trips. He and Linda managed to visit 49 of the states over the years. He was a NASCAR enthusiast and die-hard Astros fan. After moving to Fairchild in 1997, he enjoyed puttering around in his barn where he had a workshop.
Tim is preceded in death by his sons Grant Robert Houston Griffith and Charles Louis Griffith, his parents, Sam and Rosalie Griffith, and his father-in-law, Eldon R. Kaluza.
Tim is survived by his loving wife, Linda; sons Lane Griffith of Rosenberg and Byron Griffith of Farmersville; mother-in-law Carolyn Kaluza; sister-in-law Cindy Holder; brother Tom Griffith (Cheryl); sister Carolyn Connolly (John); sister Pam Marek (John); sister Debbie Hauger (Bill); brother Doug Griffith (Robin); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
