Charles "Butch" Wilson Johnson, age 77 of Clarksboro, NJ passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025. Formerly of Stratford and Magnolia, he was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Orie and Harry Johnson, and by his twin brother, Harry, Jr. Butch deeply loved his family and showed it through his well-timed and quick-witted teasing. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joyce "Kelly", daughters, Elizabeth Johns, and Rebecca Hood with her husband R. Charles Hood, the son he was thrilled to gain given the imbalance of females in his life. Lore has it that his bride and daughters were the cause of his hair loss and his love of Dewars, however, confirmation of the same is still pending. He is also survived by the newer stars of his life, his granddaughters, Annabelle & Juliette Johns, who provided their Pa-Pa with continuous light, joy, laughter, and profound love.
Butch attended Magnolia Public School and graduated as the class president from Sterling High School, Class of 1966. He then graduated from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in math education. Butch went on to meet his bride at the University of New Hampshire graduating in 1975 with a master's degree in math. The dominant part of his career was spent teaching math and computer science at Eastern High School, Haddon Township High School, and St. Joseph's University. After he concluded his formal teaching career, Butch worked as an adviser at Shorts Associates in Woodbury sharing his knowledge of finances with others so that they too could revel in retirement.
He was a valued member of the Lion Tamers Club of Atco where he served as president for several years. Butch also served as president of Engleside West Condo Association in Beach Haven, NJ. He loved nothing more than watching a sunset over Barnegat Bay while sipping scotch and telling stories. At every turn, Butch maintained a high level of his core principles of justice, family values and fairness. Butch was an avid coffee drinker, played poker & sudoku, and enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and colleagues.
Butch was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was honest, hardworking, confident, patient, complete with a dry sense of humor. Butch excelled at everything he tried and made lifelong friends consistently through the years. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him well.
Relatives & friends may visit from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on Saturday, February 22nd at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ where a memorial service will be held at 2:00pm. Butch's family request that in lieu of flowers, please make donations in Butch's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online by clicking here.

My condolences Kelly and all of the Johnson family, Butch was a good friend throughout our time at Sterling. Had many good times with him playing baseball, basketball and going to the school dances. I have great memories of rooming with President Butch and Vice President John Heisler on our senior trip, we had a great time. He was always a great guy to be around, may he rest in peace.

I had the privilege of being a student and basketball player (1973) when Coach Johnson worked at Eastern HS. Although not a big difference in age, Coach Johnson was a person I looked up to and followed his advice. He was a tough and smart basketball player. A really good person that I never forgot and will always remember.
Thank you Coach. RIP

Butch was a great friend and mentor. He was a great teacher both in and out of the classroom. I will never forget the friendship, encouragement and support in our time working together in Haddon Township. God bless Butch and his family.

I go all the way back to Magnolia. Butch and I were classmates in public school. We were in "scouts" together. His dad was my Little League coach. We attended Sterling High together. And eventually we re-united at Hadden Twp High as teachers. Butch was a class act and a good friend throughout life. The world lost a truly great guy and someone I looked up to for many years
