It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Charley (aka "Todd" or "Toddy"). Charley Krell, age 88, passed away on October 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ironton, Ohio on September 28, 1937, son of Charles and Margaret Krell. Charley graduated from Holy Family High School in Ashland, KY, and then from Notre Dame University. Following graduation, Charley began his career with IBM, which took him to Maryland and New Jersey, before settling finally back in Kentucky. He retired from IBM in the early 90's to begin a long, enjoyable and active retirement. In retirement, Charley spent time driving buses for the Senior Center and pursuing many hobbies, such as training and running in numerous 5K races around Kentucky and entering - and completing - his first marathons, or attending as many grandchildrens' games, dance recitals, and other events as possible. Most importantly, Charley was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who selflessly prioritized the well-being and happiness of his family. Charley is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 61 years Mary "Porky" Krell; his son Charley; daughter Krista Krell; daughter Gretchen (Mike) Smith. He is also survived by grandchildren Zachary, Rachel Krell (Joseph) Neville, Laura Krell (Michael) Gonzales, Eli Smith, and Gus Smith. Charley is survived by two sisters Peggy Halpin and Jane Scherrer, and brother Tony Krell. In addition to his parents, Charley is now reunited in heaven with his sisters Kay and Carolyn. As we say our goodbyes, let us always remember Charley's humor and wit, love of music and dogs and sports, his faith, but mostly his devotion to and joy for his family. His life was a blessing, and may his soul find eternal peace. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 10:00 at St Leo's Catholic Church, Versailles, KY. In lieu of flowers, a gift donation in Charley's memory may be made to one of the following organizations: Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm, www.oldfriendsequine.org or to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.Stjude.org To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Charles, please visit our floral store.
