Charles "Chuck" Meny

Charles "Chuck" Meny, 94 of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Warrick.
Chuck was born in Haubstadt, Indiana on December 11, 1929, to the late Victor and Lorene (Schultheis) Meny. After grade school, at age 13, he attended St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. Following, he traveled to Innsbruck, Austria, studying Theology for 4 years. He was ordained priest there in 1955. Chuck was appointed first Superintendent at Rex Mundi in 1958. In 1968, he was named, along with Father Rohleder, to form the first pastoral team in the Evansville Diocese at St John's Apostolic Center for inner-city work. The Bishop named Chuck the director of Social Action and he coordinated activities to combat poverty and racial inequality. In later years, he began a new life where he married Rosella and moved to Massachusetts for 6 years. They lived and worked at a large nursery where Chuck, a lover of flowers, helped manage the greenhouses. Upon returning to Evansville in 1981, they built a dream home. Chuck designed and built the home using passive solar design technology. He would say he "knew every nail in the house". They worked hard, lived off the land, creating vegetable gardens and planting fruit trees. Chuck will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rosella "Rossi" (Nurrenbern) Meny of Evansville, IN; step-son, Gerry Fuchs (Brenda) of Evansville, IN; sisters, Berenice Blankenberger-Price and Joanne Lamey; and by his brother, Eugene Meny.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mary M. Meny, Kenneth "Bud" Meny, Dorothy Hamerin, Wilma Riedford, Elvira Kiefer, Ann Lannert, Gerald "Curly" Meny and Imelda Balbach; step-daughter, Julie (Fuchs) Slaton and her husband, Doyle.
A celebration of Chuck's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711.
Friends may visit from 12:00 noon until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
