Charles Whitworth
Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Charles Robert Whitworth, 82, passed away very peacefully and quickly at his home on Tuesday, March 7, 2023.
He was born on June 12, 1940 in Brigham City, Utah, a son of Lloyd and Lila Nielsen Whitworth. Chuck graduated from Box Elder High School in 1958 and was in the top ten of his class. Chuck went to the University of Utah where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering and his Doctorate in Material Science and Engineering.
While Charlie was at the University of Utah, he met a stunning lady in a blue dress named Susan Irene Davis. They fell in love and that was history. They got married on June 12, 1965 in Moab, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 13, 1978.
Chuck started his career at Dow Chemical in Michigan and later worked at Kohler in Wisconsin.
In 1986-87 he moved his family back to Brigham City, Utah where he worked at Thiokol as a material engineer and retired in 2001.
Charlie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he had various callings. Teaching Sunday School was one of his favorite callings.
He loved fishing, flowers and photography with tens of thousands of pictures taken. He also loved to build and launch model rockets, first with his daughters and later with his grandkids.
Surviving is his wife, Susan; four daughters: Teresa (Markus) Mika; Amber Whitworth; Crystal (David) Ashby; Heather (Teemu) Luomola; five grandchildren, Grant, Lila, Samuel, Joanna and Edward.
Also surviving is one sister, Marty Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Susan Thackeray and Jo Anne Petersen.
Chuck's desire was to be cremated. The family will have a celebration of life in the summer of 2023.
