Charlie Helms

Charles Edward Helms, age 84 of Loudon passed away Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024.Born September 20, 1940, in Vonore, Tennessee, he moved to Loudon at age 3 where he went on to graduate from Loudon High School. He was a lifelong fan and supporter of the Redskins. He also loved his Tennessee Volunteers and Lady Vols. He enjoyed watching football and basketball and any sport where he could cheer on the Big Orange. Additionally, Charlie was an avid golfer and enjoyed competitive bowling as well as coaching Little League sports.Following eight years in service to our nation in the Tennessee National Guard, Charlie became a delivery driver for Dr. Pepper before enrolling at Tennessee Tech University. He joined Union Carbide in April 1964, later named Viskase, and built a 36-year career with the company while making lifelong friends. Charlie was a member of First Farragut United Methodist Church where he enjoyed worshipping.Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton Manis and Mildred (Hitson) Helms. He is survived by his dear cousins, Charlotte Madura and Mike Hitson, along with Charlottes son Jeff and wife Diane. He loved his friends and caretakers dearly and will be missed by Ron and Dale Hensley, Pensacola, FL and Mary Russell, Rick Bettis and Liz Yates, all of Loudon.Charlie lived at The Neighborhood at Tellico Village for the past 10 years. His family and friends would like to thank the team there for their love and care that went above and beyond.In lieu of flowers, contributions remembering Charlie may be sent to the Fish Hospitality Pantry, 800 Northshore Dr., Knoxville, TN 37919. It would mean so much to Charlie to know that food was provided to families in need. In addition, expressions of sympathy may be directed to Charlotte Madura, 113 Salisbury Circle, Santa Rosa, CA 95401.Services honoring and remembering Charlie Helms will be held 2:30 PM Friday, Dec. 6th in the McGill Click Chapel with Rev. Drew McCallie officiating. Interment to follow in the Loudon County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM Friday prior to the service at McGill Click Funerals & Cremations, 1366 Hwy 72 N. Loudon.
