Of
Alexandria, VA passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Loving husband to Sandra Jane Worley; beloved father to Kenneth Worley and Renee Haug (husband Kevin Haug); cherished Pappa to Joshua Worley (Caroline Worley), Nathan Worley, Kaylee Haug. Charlie was born in Gretna VA on the family farm, number 17 of 19 children. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Rose, his parents Sam H Worley and Sarah E (Lizzy) Worley, five half-sisters: Ruth Short, Grace Mattox, Roberta Brumfield, Annie Dalton, and Frances Dove. Four half-brothers: Hayes Worley, Henry Worley, Petross Worley, and Price Worley. Seven brothers: Dave Worley, James Worley, Sam Worley, Clay Worley, Wilford Worley, Doug Worley. He is survived by One Sister Gladys Light of Roanoke VA and one brother Oscar Lee Worley (Sharon Worley wife)
Charlie grew up in Southern Virginia on a tobacco and corn farm. While running around barefoot in overalls he worked the fields, swam and played with his family. When he was 16 his cousin Russel took him to church to meet the Lord. As he was lying in his attic bedroom on a hot summer night he thought if hell is worse then this I'm not going. He took the Lord as his Savior that night and has faithfully served him since.
He worked on his father's farm till he was 17. On his 17th birthday he joined the Navy.
It was a rude awakening, but his father told him to" keep his eyes and ears open and his mouth shut. If the others can take it, so can you."
Charlie went to basic training in Pensacola Florida where he was trained on the IBM punch card system. This was his start as a career in IT. Charlie was stationed in Banbridge MD, Arlington VA, San Diego CA., on the USS Constellation (during the Vietnam war) and Washington DC. He retired in 1977 after serving his country for 20 years.
Shortly after, he started a new career with the DC government with the Child Support Enforcement Agency in the IT field. He worked for 25 years before retiring.
During that time as his career went on so did his family, he fell in love at first glance with Mary Rose at a church social in 1960. He escorted her home that night and married her in 1961. They lived happily in the Northern VA area and in California for a short while. They had two children Kenneth in 1969 and Renee in 1973.
They bought a house in Alexandria in 1973 where Charlie and Mary Rose loved and raised their family. They enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends and were active in their church.
Charlie served the Lord at the Grace Brethren Church from 1960 to 2024. He taught Adult Sunday School for over 30 years, was a Deacon, a Council Member, Property Assistant, Narrated Christmas Pageants, a Trustee, the Pastors Confidant and much more.
In 2003 Mary Rose passed away and left Charlie with his children and his two grandsons which were the light of his life.
In 2004 Charlie met his second wife Sandy. They were married in January 2008. The two of them spent time with their families, traveled, worked together faithfully at the church and enjoyed their summers at the vacation home in Cape Vincent, New York.
Charlie's granddaughter arrived in 2011 to complete the trifecta of grandchildren. He adored Kaylee and doted on her, she was his sunshine.
Charlie became ill in 2019 with an unknown neurological disease. He lived the best life he could fighting this disease, always keeping faith and loving his family.
Charlie stayed at home with his wife Sandy throughout his entire illness. He succumbed to complications due to Renal failure.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
If Charlie could sum up his life he would say "Always love and have faith in the Lord, love your family, friends and let them know it. Do good works."
As he has been a good and faithful servant.
