Cheryl Burns Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Messinger Mortuaries- Indian School Mortuary on Feb. 19, 2026.
Cheryl Collier Burns, 65, of Sun City, Arizona, formerly of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2026. She was born on November 7, 1960, to Albert "Al" and Rosalie Collier.

Cheryl was a proud 1979 graduate of Springfield High School, where she played softball and was a member of the school's first championship team-a memory she cherished throughout her life. She went on to graduate with honors from Kent State University in 1983. Following college, Cheryl began her career as a Telecommunications Manager with Goodyear Aerospace. It was there that she met the love of her life, Michael "Mike" Burns.

In 2010, Cheryl and Mike relocated from Ohio to Arizona with their three children, embracing a new chapter filled with sunshine, family gatherings, and treasured time with their growing family.

Cheryl lived life with warmth and enthusiasm. She loved playing card games with her family, playing shuffleboard, and spending time outdoors in the Arizona sunshine. Family vacations were among her greatest joys, and she created countless cherished memories on trips filled with laughter and togetherness. She also had a deep love for arts and crafts, always finding creative ways to express herself and to make something special for those she loved. She especially enjoyed garage sales and antique shopping, delighted by the thrill of discovering unique treasures and hidden gems.

Above all, Cheryl was full of love. She was the heart of her family-generous, thoughtful, and always putting others first. Everyone who knew her described her as kind and giving, someone who never hesitated to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement. Her home was a place of welcome, comfort, and joy.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, Michael "Mike" Burns; her devoted mother, Rosalie Collier; her brother, Albie (Cathy) Collier; her children, Collier, Brooke (Devon), Bailey, Brittany (Kevin), Jake (Alex), Luke (Tricia); her 10 cherished grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert "Al" Collier.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 27 at 11:00 a.m. MST at Grace Bible Church in Sun City, Arizona. The service will be livestreamed in Ohio at the Lakemore United Methodist Church on Flickinger Road in Akron, Ohio. Anyone who would like to attend is welcome.

Cheryl was a cherished sister-in-law & friend. We had many, many fun times & vacations together. She was full of life & always up for anything fun. Some of my fondest memories are times the four of us spent together. I sure loved her & will always miss her.
