Chloe Reese Atienza was born on February 13, 2009, in Manhattan, New York, to Rethier and Michelle Atienza. Chloe brought light, laughter, and joy into the world from day one. Her love for her parents, siblings, extended family, and family of caregivers at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children cannot be captured by words alone.

At 8 months old, Chloe suffered from bacterial meningitis. She was a fierce fighter throughout her life. Her diagnosis left her abilities extremely impacted, yet she exhibited strength and grace as she battled against many odds.

Chloe's love and bond with her family is unbreakable. She was happy and calm when she was around those who loved her. The company of her siblings and close family was preferred over any toy or activity. Chloe loved to stare at her loved ones and feel connected to the world surrounding her. She loved going for quiet ‘secret’ walks with her sister and brother through the playground and halls of St. Mary’s, her long-term rehabilitation hospital where she resided for the past 10 years. Her sister’s calming touch to her cheek, her brother’s mischievous poking of her face, time spent outside, and their time playing together on the mat were some of the most special times they had as a family. Her presence brought immense joy to her family and friends, leaving behind cherished memories to be held close for years to come.

Chloe is survived by her loving family: Rethier (Father), Michelle (Mother), Olivia (Sister), and Jackson (Brother). Their lives have been forever touched by Chloe's presence and the love she shared so freely.

Services to honor and celebrate Chloe's life will be held at Mangano Family Funeral Home in Deer Park, NY. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 27 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Closing prayers will be held on Friday, June 28 at 9:45 AM for those who wish to pay their final respects. A Mass will follow immediately after at Saint Matthew in Dix Hills at 10:45 AM.

Chloe’s spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known her. In our memories, she forever remains a beacon of love and light. Rest in peace, sweet Chloe.

God saw she was getting tired

And a cure was not to be.

So He put His arms around her

And whispered, “Come with me.”

With tearful eyes we watched her

And saw her fade away.

Although we loved her dearly,

We could not make her stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,

Hard working hands to rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us

He only takes the best.
