Christine Horwatt Obituary
Christine "Chrissy" Jean Horwatt August 21, 1960 – May 22, 2025
Christine "Chrissy" Jean Horwatt passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia, surrounded by the love of those who held her dear. Born on August 21, 1960, in Virginia, Chrissy was the beloved daughter of the late Douglas Morelen Sr. and Billie Jean Johnson.
Chrissy was a proud graduate of Kellam High School, where her quick wit, warm heart, and easy laughter made her a friend to many. She began her career as a nursing assistant, caring for others with the same compassion and tenderness she shared with those close to her. Later, she found success in the world of insurance sales, where her sincerity and natural gift for connecting with people earned her both professional respect and lasting friendships.
To know Chrissy was to know joy. She had a vibrant, loving soul that brought light and laughter wherever she went. She cherished the little things that make life beautiful-weekend getaways to Nags Head, browsing for crafts and creating handmade treasures, cooking up delicious meals to share, or simply enjoying the golden glow of a sunset with a good tune playing in the background. Her love for music, palm trees, and the sound of waves matched the peaceful and spirited energy she brought into the lives of others.
Family and friendship were everything to Chrissy. She was a devoted sister, a fun-loving aunt, and a fiercely loyal friend. She had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and loved. Her home was often filled with laughter, good food, and the comfort of her unmistakable presence.
Chrissy is preceded in death by her loving parents, Douglas Morelen Sr. and Billie Jean Johnson; her sister Cynthia Cashwell; her brother Douglas Morelen Jr.; her niece Brittany Cashwell; and her stepfather LeRoy Guthrie.
She is survived by her sister, Melissa Daughtry; her brother, Mike Morelen; step-mother, Bonnie Morelen and her nieces, Antwanette Stage, Tiffany Stage, and Brandi Daughtry; who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She also leaves behind three of her closest friends-Kim Yost, Sheri Byrd, and Kim Hammond-whose bond with Chrissy was built on decades of laughter, love, and unwavering support.
Chrissy's kindness, warmth, and spirit will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her. She was truly one of a kind, and her legacy of love will never fade.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 6, from 10am until 11am followed by her Celebration of Life. Details will be shared with friends and loved ones as they become available.
