Christopher Sean Davis, beloved husband, friend, and community supporter, passed away in his home in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, on October 3, 2025, at the age of 69.
Chris was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on November 9, 1955, to Dorothy Fern Summers and Buford Henry Lackey. Adopted at the age of three, Chris endured a difficult childhood marked by trauma. Despite these early challenges, he held close the vivid memories of traveling to Africa and India as a child-experiences that offered him a rare sense of peace during an otherwise turbulent time. These journeys became cherished moments of refuge, shaping his deep appreciation for the beauty and diversity of the world.
After leaving his adoptive home at 16, Chris found refuge and unconditional love with his chosen family, Joanne Proffitt Smith and her children, Dianna Proffitt and Ed Smith. Their kindness and acceptance became a turning point in his life, and he remained forever grateful for the family they gave him.
Chris began working at a local pet store, where he formed cherished friendships that lasted a lifetime. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, launching a distinguished 30-year career with Sprint Telecommunications for the Deaf. Starting as a Relay Operator, Chris rose through the ranks to become an Operations Supervisor and finished his career as a Training Manager. His dedication to accessibility and inclusion left a lasting impact on the deaf community and his colleagues.
In 1994, Chris married his beloved, Cristina Soza Davis, in Austin, Texas. Together, they built a life grounded in love, service, and care, especially for Cristina's mother, Matilda Soza, whom they lovingly supported together.
In 2006, Chris and Cristina began the adoption process for their teenage son, Manuel Torres. This heartfelt decision reflected Chris's deep commitment to nurturing others and his deep belief that family is built on love and support, regardless of circumstance or timeline.
After retiring in 2021, Chris embraced the joys of fishing, reading, Racehorse Canasta, and Mah Jongg. He was a steadfast member of the HSV Evening Lions Club, serving as Membership Chairperson, Vice President, and most recently, President. His leadership and drive to serve others enriched the lives of many within the community.
Chris will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, his deep empathy, and his ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of Chris's life will be held in Hot Springs Village on October 11th at 1 pm at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to gather and honor a man whose journey was defined not by circumstance but by resilience, love, and generosity. Friends are invited to share a few words or memories, if desired.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Hot Springs Village Evening Lions Club, PO Box 8534 Hot Springs Village, 71910, which Chris served as President at the time of his passing.
