Christopher Stephen Hartmann, 57, of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away on October 27, 2025. He was born on May 14, 1968, at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ.
Christopher grew up in Paramus, NJ, and graduated from Paramus Catholic High School in 1986. He went on to attend Rutgers University for track and graduated in 1990. Christopher later became a dispatcher with the Mahwah Police Department, where he proudly served for over 25 years. During that time, he lived in Chester, NY, before retiring to Toms River, NJ, in 2023.
Christopher was a true lover of music and guitars. He was known for his quick wit, love of collecting lighthouses, appreciation for The Beatles, holiday decorating, and his talent for playing guitar.
Christopher is survived by his loving family: his sisters, Eileen and her husband Edward Maher of Jackson, NJ, and Maureen and her husband Robert Loveman of Mahwah, NJ; his brothers, John of Charlestown, NH, and Thomas and his wife Elise of Milford, PA and lifelong partner of Francis X. Hartmann Jr., Karen Ahlquist of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews —Timothy, Michael, Robert, Kelly, Meghan, Taryn, Thomas, Erin, and Sarah.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Francis X. Sr. and Kathleen A. Hartmann (Doyle); his brother, Dr. Francis X. Hartmann Jr.; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Hartmann; nephew, Edward Maher III; and niece, Kathleen Hartmann.
A graveside service will be held on December 12th at 10:30 at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ. “Now he rests in a place where all his troubles seem so far away.”
Christopher will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He would always encourage everyone to “keep pickin’.
