Christopher J. Hartnett passed away suddenly in his home in Norristown PA on February 7, 2023. He was 68 years old.
Born in Akron, OH, Christopher was the son of the Late George Joseph and Gertrude( Cleary) Hartnett. Husband to his loving wife, Laurel Pippen. Brother to George Hartnett and his former wife Linda Fowler Hartnett, Marie Hartnett Schnieders and her husband Gregg Schneiders, Carol Hartnett Sieck and her husband Clay Sieck and James Hartnett and his wife Carol Hartnett. Christopher was uncle too, Gannon Hartnett, Emily Hartnett, Will Sieck, Daniel Sieck, David Sieck, Luke Schneiders, Nate Schneiders, Robert George Hartnett, Brendan Hartnett, AnnMarie Hartnett and the deceased Marianne Hartnett. And,husband to first wife, Carol DeFibbo and step-son, Anthony Defibbo.
Chris started his life in Akron OH and Allentown PA and then moved to England with his family. After 7 years in England and earning the honor of Head Boy at St Martins School, Chris joined his family in Allentown to finish his schooling at Parkland High School.
Chris then went on to earn a degree in engineering from Carnegie Mellon. After Carnegie Mellon Chris accepted a position with Turner Construction Company rising through positions of increased responsibility where he worked on major construction of hospitals and pharmaceutical facilities.
Among Chris's many loves were his family, golf, music and the outdoors.
For 25 consecutive years, and the brain child of older brother George, the family connected in Duck, North Carolina for a family vacation. The vacation was usually around Chris's birthday and so brother Jim one year surprised Chris with a golf bag and some clubs and invited him and his older brother to a round. That was the beginning of a long passion for Chris, he loved golf and he was fortunate to be able to bond with his father, brothers, and nephews on golf courses in Scotland, Ireland and England as well as in the states.
There was much to love about Chris. He was a devoted and loving husband and a gentleman. As a brother he was 100% committed and as an uncle he was 100% invested. He was a loyal friend.
We are saddened that his health failed him because none of us were ready to let him go, but he had other ideas as he always did.
So, now we will reach into our memories and keep him with us until we meet again, somewhere fun, like the golf course, on the beach, a concert. Or maybe we'll meet on the lanai enjoying the sunset while sipping a cool gin and tonic. The love that Chris had for us will carry us through for days, years and generations to come.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The First Tee of Greater Philadelphia or The Sierra Club in Chris' memory.
