Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service - Yorktown Blvd. on Jul. 25, 2024.
Christopher Porter, known affectionately as Chris, passed away at his home in
Corpus Christi, Texas on July 24, 2024. He was 49 years old. Chris passed surrounded by his family, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Born on September 14, 1974, at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, Chris was a man of honor, humor, and deep love for his family.
Chris proudly served in the United States Army with the 10th Mountain Division in Fort Drum, New York. His time in the military was marked by a commitment to his country and the camaraderie of his fellow soldiers. During this time, Chris met his best friend and the love of his life, Christen Davis. Following his military service, Chris was a well-loved employee and prankster at the Corpus Christi Army Depot. He retired from this role only last year due to his illness.
Chris furthered his education at Jefferson Community College in Watertown, New York until returning to Corpus Christi with his family. Chris was a man who found pleasure in the simple things: road trips with his beloved wife and children, the relaxation of starting a new book, the satisfaction of completing an intricate Lego sculpture, the thrill of adding to his collection of various weaponry, and the loud rumble of his Ford Mustang. He was known for his love of rock music and movies, often sharing his favorites with anyone that entered the room. Chris also shared his father's love for the NFL team formerly known as the Washington Redskins. Above all, Chris was a family man.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Christen Porter, and their blended family: William, Christian, Dylan, McKenna, and Dutch (Kendall) Porter, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and mischief. Chris was also known lovingly as Pop to his eight grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He was a dear son to his father, Ronald Porter, stepmother, Ana Porter, and his mother, Noemi Mendieta-Porter, as well as a cherished brother to his sister, Jennifer Ortega, and his stepsisters, Myra, Melissa, and Melinda. Chris was also deeply loved by Christen's family and friends in New York. Each family member brought brightness to his life, and in turn, he filled theirs with laughter, often through his well-crafted practical jokes, which he delivered with a twinkle in his eye and a smirk on his face.
To know Chris was to love him. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to live on through his children. Chris was a quiet man, but his life was filled with love and laughter. He made the world a better place simply by being in it. Friends and family will celebrate a life lived to the fullest, and stories of Chris's love for his family, a good joke, and a great T-shirt will guide and comfort us in the days to come.
Services for Chris are Thursday, August 1st at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home, 5921 Yorktown Blvd. in
Corpus Christi, Texas. A visitation will be held from 5-9 PM, with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 7 PM. A committal with final military honors will be at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 I-37,
Corpus Christi, TX on August 2nd at 2:00 PM.
