Christopher Darryl Rooks

SURF CITY - Christopher Darryl Rooks, 57, of Surf City, NC, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, April 16, 2023, surrounded by his family. A Celebration of his Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel with Rev. Tony Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park.
Chris was born in Whiteville, NC, and graduated from Heritage Bible College with a Bachelor's of Religious Education. He was an ordained minister for over 30 years, during which time he pastored and was involved in church growth. He was also a talented barber. In 1995 he married Chrystal Turner Rooks, and they have two beautiful girls, Kaitlyn and Taylor.
He was the most supportive husband and father. He moved to Virginia when his wife was accepted into dental school, and he worked hard to make her dreams become reality. He loved his children more than anything, and he nicked-named them Huck and Blue because of their beautiful blue eyes.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Doug and Hazel Rooks of Whiteville, NC. He leaves behind his wife, Dr. Chrystal Rooks; two daughters, Kaitlyn (age 24), an ECU and NCSU graduate, and Taylor (age 16), a junior at Liberty Christian Academy; brothers, Danny Rooks and Jerome Rooks (wife Barbara); and a host of nieces and nephews.
His life made an impact on the kingdom of God, and he now is rejoicing in the Promised Land that he preached about.
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, prior to the service, from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
