Clara Clemente

Clara Clemente, 100, of Penns Grove passed away on July 27, 2024. Born in Penns Grove, Clara was the daughter of Alessandro & Maria (Santori) Garbini. She was a member of St. James RC Church prior to it becoming part of the Parish of St. Gabriel the Archangel, was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, the Senior Saints, the Washington Club and volunteered at the Memorial Hospital of Salem County with the Red Cross Gray Ladies. During the Second World War, she was also part of the country's civil defense as an airplane spotter. Clara was also an expert seamstress and with a group of friends created a sewing club together. Furthermore, the passion, love and joy for cooking that she had showed in everything she made especially with the Italian dishes she cooked.
She is survived by her son Arthur "Art" Clemente and her brother Emo J. Garbini as well as many more family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Guido "Doc" Clemente and several siblings, Othello Garbini, Antonio J. Garbini, Delfo Garbini and Josephine Sheridan.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the Parish of St. Gabriel the Archangel, 369 Georgetown Rd., Carneys Point, NJ 08069. The viewing will begin at 9 AM with mass following at 11 AM. Burial will take place at St. Joseph's RC Church Cemetery in Woodstown following the mass. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested that donations can be made to the Salem County Center for Autism, 193 N. Broadway, Pennsville, NJ 08070.
