Ready to be reunited with his bride of 75 years, Clarence Darter passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14th at Lunn's. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, November 15th, at Faith Village Church of Christ family center with Charlie Thomason officiating. Graveside services will follow at Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Clarence was born June 18, 1929, in Childress, Texas, to Clarence and Marie Darter. His family had a dairy farm that he worked on until he went off to Texas Tech. He met Beth Rogers, and they later eloped to Clovis, New Mexico, since she was not quite old enough to marry in Texas. He enlisted in the Air Force, and he and Beth moved to San Antonio, Texas. Their first child, David was born there. After Clarence's service to his country was over, the family moved to Lubbock, Texas, where Denise and Donna were born.

Clarence eventually graduated with a doctorate in education from Texas Tech. In December of 1966, he moved his family during a snow storm to Wichita Falls. He drove a U-Haul with David while Beth drove their 1963 Ford Falcon station wagon "loaded to the gills!" That was surely not Beth's favorite memory of Clarence. In Wichita Falls, Clarence would teach at Midwestern State University in the education department, for over 40 years. There, Clarence's character and leadership led hundreds of his students to the profession of great importance, that of teaching. Clarence was definitely the best example of a Christian man, husband, dad and leader to his family and church family. With Beth by his side they raised their children in God's holy word, the Bible. He was an elder at Faith Village Church of Christ for over 40 years. His gift of teaching led him to teach years of adult Bible classes at church. Besides loving his family deeply, Clarence loved church, tennis, sports and gardening.

He leaves behind to carry on his legacy of faith, his children, David and Susan Darter, Denise and Stewart Swartz and Donna and Billy Gee. His grandchildren include Amanda and Andy Policky, Rosanna and Chris Cotton, David Paul Darter, Jordan and Michelle Swartz, Janson and Amy Swartz, Cassandra and Alex Meylor, Joshua Gee, and Jentry and Amber Swartz. Great grandchildren, Jane and Caleb Browning, Callie Cotton, Abby Policky, Mason, Jack, and Lane Swartz, And Saylor Swartz.
