Clarice Jane Frederick

Clarice Jane Frederick ("CJ" or "Janie") died September 22, 2022 at Oklahoma Heart Hospital, of heart failure. She was 80 years old. Janie was born in Vinita, OK, the daughter of Dr. James B. and Frances S. Darrough, long-time Vinita residents.
Janie attended the University of Oklahoma (OU) for her Bachelors' degree in mathematics. After graduation, she taught math at Heritage Hall High School in Oklahoma City. She later returned to OU and earned two separate Masters' Degrees in mathematics. She was nick-named "CJ" during her time as a grad student at OU.
CJ worked as a Database Manager with Bell Telephone for 12 years, often serving as trouble-shooter overseeing and guiding field technicians.
CJ later was a professor for more than 20 years in the Mathematics Department at the OKC campus of Oklahoma State University, specializing in higher math and serving as Department Head for several years. She loved her students and they loved her, with many of them staying in touch with her years after their graduation.
In addition to her parents, Frederick was pre-deceased by her sister, Nancy D. Dwyer, and CJ's former husbands, Chris Calhoun and Alan Frederick. Her survivors include her two daughters, Karley of Oklahoma City and Stacy of New York City; two sisters, Beth and husband, Rusty, of Amissville, VA and Kelly and husband, Randy, of Harper, TX; one niece, Patricia, and nephews, Mark and Philip, all of Central FL; four grandsons, Jack, of Ft. Worth, TX; Charlton, Tristan and Dakota of New York; and one great-grandchild, Havely of Ft. Worth. Janie leaves her family a legacy of love, perseverance and courage. She will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life, along with a reception after the service, will be held at the Church of the Servant at 14343 No. McArthur Blvd, Oklahoma City (servantokc.org) on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Disposition of ashes will be held at a later date in Vinita, OK. The family is being served by Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral and Cremation Services of Vinita.
