Clayda T. Baxter passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, with loving family and supportive caregivers by her side.
She married the love of her life, David H. Baxter, on September 29, 1951, in Ellenburg, NY, and they moved to So. Burlington, VT, to build their home and raise their family. She was a devoted homemaker, involved with her son's & daughter's school & club activities. Over the years, they enjoyed a wide circle of friends for traveling, card games, and Florida winters. She loved family gatherings, seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, painting with her art club, phone chats & reading.
Clayda resided at Mansfield Place in Essex Junction for the past six months and became friends with many residents and staff. She so appreciated everyone's help, prayers, calls, cards, and visits.
She was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Florence (Veivia) Smith, her loving husband of 70 years, David, in 2022, her brother Sonny Smith, and niece Terry. She leaves her children, Dave W. Baxter and spouse Cathy, daughter Carol Bristol and spouse Lee, Sisters, Shirley Smith, Audrey and spouse Howard, Phyllis and spouse Dennis, grandchildren Justin, Chad, Kate, and Caitlin. Great-grandchildren, Ivy and Violet, and many special nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, family and friends are invited to a brief visitation at Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St, Essex Junction, VT on Monday, August 11 at 9 AM - 10:30 AM
Burial at Resurrection Park Catholic Cemetery, 160 Hinesburg Rd, So Burlington at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to UVM Hospice Home Care,802-860-4475. The family would like to express appreciation to Sandra and Julie, and all who provided gentle hospice support. Thank you to the caring staff at Mansfield Place, to her individual caregivers, and to Lisa, a special caregiver and friend.
