On August 21, 2024, Coletta walked through the gates of Heaven and straight into the arms of her loving husband thus fulfilling her greatest desire to be reunited with him in the presence of Christ.
Coletta impacted those around her through her numerous volunteer efforts. Born on February 20,1938 in Painesville, Ohio to Harvey and Florence Shaw. She was the second of thirteen children. As the oldest girl, she acquired the nickname of "Queenie" from her siblings. She attended St. Mary's Catholic school through eighth grade and graduated from Andrew's School in 1955 with her cosmetology certification. She married Vereen "Bud" Stover on October 11, 1958 in Painesville, OH. The couple began their life in Minnesota and in 1968, an opportunity arose for the couple to return to her hometown of Painesville. She continued her career as a cosmetologist at the Glamour Shoppe and volunteered as Girl Scout leader and at St. Mary's Church. In 1974, Bud's job transferred them to Lake Jackson where she began her "retirement" at the age of 36 which really translated into her passion for volunteering and becoming an active community member. She grew to love the game of tennis which she passed onto her grandson, Konnor. Growing up as a Girl Scout herself, she understood the impact this organization had on young women's lives. She received the Girl Scout Family of the Year Award from Girl Scouts of South Texas and the St. Anne Award from the Catholic Church in recognition of her contributions to the scouting program. She was recognized by the City of Lake Jackson and state of Texas for her contributions to bettering the environment. As a member of St. Michael's, she was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America Our Lady of the Lake chapter, the Altar Society, and St. Michael's Women's Club. In addition, she taught religious education and Vacation Bible School for over four decades. She became a substitute teacher for Our Lady Queen of Peace School where she was able to share her faith with future generations. But most of all, Coletta took the greatest pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She truly enjoyed spending time with them and many games of cut-throat rummy and war were played between them to the delight of the children. She shared her belief that a hot cup of tea was the answer to any problem you had and passed this on to the next generation by hosting elegant tea parties for her grandchildren. She believed that love and traditions were the glue that held a family together. Not a holiday will be celebrated without her presence being felt.
Coletta is survived by her children Allen Stover, Celeste Stover Burns (Walter), Maureen Stover Shanks (Terry), Monica Stover Donovan (Brandon), and her brothers and sisters in Ohio. She is lovingly called Nana by thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vereen "Bud" Stover, parents, Harvey and Florence Shaw and siblings: Harvey, Susan, Maureen, and Corby. A special thank you to Dr. Dalal and the nurses of IPH Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School in Richwood, TX.
Services will be held at St. Michael's Church on Saturday, August 31st. Visitation at 9:30, Rosary at 10:30, and Mass at 11:00.
