Colleen M. Campe, 95, of Troy, IL, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Alhambra Rehab and Healthcare in Alhambra, IL.
She was born on June 29, 1929, in Washington, MO, to Harry and Anna (nee Haberberger) McCallister, and was the third oldest of eight children. On February 26, 1949, she married Elmer J. Campe, Sr., in East St. Louis, IL.
Colleen has lived in Troy, IL, since 1982 and was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church. She worked as a teller for Troy Bank, and later, Central Bank, for many years. Colleen and Elmer liked to travel, especially to Arizona, Texas, and Florida. She also enjoyed camping at Carlyle Lake with their friends. Colleen was the most selfless, kind, and loving woman. She was a very smart person who loved to read and learn new things and was extremely proud when she got her GED after quitting school to help her family. Family was everything to her as Colleen loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great grandchildren. She was a peacekeeper and would do anything for anyone. Colleen will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Anna McCallister; husband, Elmer J. Campe, Sr.; grandson, Gregory Campe; siblings, Esther Mayer, Kenny McCallister, Laverne Rash, Darlene Howell, Bob McCallister, Harriet Little, and Karen Mackin; and brother-in-law, Norman Wright.
Colleen is survived by her children, Elmer "Jim" (Debbie) Campe, Michael (Betty Jo) Campe, and Diane (Jim) Hawkins; grandchildren, Michelle (John) Suess, Kristina (Brent) Dees, Brian (Shannon) Campe, and Jimmie (Kelli) Hawkins; great grandchildren, Eric Suess, Molly (Maddie Litterst) Suess, Shelby (Dakotah Clark) Dees, Luc Dees, Tyler Dees, Riley Campe, Gunner Campe, Cooper Campe, Jackson Campe, Mason Hawkins, and Tanner Hawkins; great-great granddaughter, Charlotte Clark; granddaughter-in-law, Lindsey Kelly; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Wright; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
