Joan Louise (Wannarka) Campe was born on August 1, 1930, to George and Alma (Krooss) Wannarka at home in Rolling Green Township, MN. She attended country school District #125 through 8th grade and then graduated from Fairmont High School in 1948. Growing up, Joan helped on the family farm milking cows. One of her jobs was driving the milk containers to Farmers Co-op Creamery. After a while her family noticed that she always wanted to take the milk containers and it was there at the Creamery that Joan met the love of her life, Leonard.
On June 7, 1950, Joan was united in marriage to Leonard Campe at St. Paul's Catholic Church in
Fairmont, MN. They made their home in Fairmont and were blessed with two daughters, Jill in 1955 and Jayne in 1961. Joan worked for a few years at the Martin County Library in Fairmont before working as the Deputy County Recorder recording deeds and mortgages from 1950 to 1987. After their retirement, Leonard and Joan enjoyed their retirement together golfing, spending many winters at their condo in Arizona and later bus tours all over the United States. Their greatest joy was their grandchildren who always got Grandma to take them shopping and Grandpa to take them on morning walks to have coffee with his friends.
Joan was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and Interlaken Golf Club in Fairmont. She also was a member of the Red Hat Club. In their younger years, Joan and Leonard enjoyed going to dances at Interlaken and Hands Park. Joan was a sharp bridge player and loved playing with family and friends.
In the past few years, Joan's health began to decline, and she moved closer to her family to GracePointe Crossing in Cambridge, MN where she lived until passing away.
Joan is survived by her two daughters, Jill (Michael) Boike of Waconia and Jayne (Joe) Morley of Cambridge; grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer (Jake) Boike Armerding, Michelle Boike, Jessica Boike, Erin (Travis) Christensen, Emily (Wei) Yu and Andrew (Anne) Morley; great-grandchildren, Jude, Larkin and newly born baby Armerding, Sarah, Leah, Mary, Philip and Nora; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Alma Wannarka; husband, Leonard Campe; mother and father-in-law, Henry and Edith Campe; brother, Max (Kathy) Wannarka; and all of Leonard's brothers and sisters.
Joan's family wishes to express their appreciation and thanks for the wonderful and loving care she received at Goldfinch and GracePointe Crossing.
