Beloved husband, father, brother, friend Anthony Francis Dewey passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025, after a four year battle with cancer.
He was born in Hartford on January 15, 1956, son of Arlington (Art) and Marie Mangiagli Dewey. In his youth he was an altar server at St. Patrick St. Anthony Church and an Eagle Scout. He attended the University of Connecticut studying Software Engineering. In 1982 Tony and Martha O'Brien were married, and in 1991 became parents to the "sunshine of his life" Hannah Elizabeth. Tony had a special place in his heart for his hobby - philately. Tony was a respected and successful collector, exhibitor, published author, mentor, and accredited philatelic judge. Some of his closest friends are part of the Philatelic family including 2 special friends: Mark Schwartz and Ron Strawser. Most recently he won the George Brett Cup and accomplished a philatelic hat-trick - winning all 3 major awards at one show. His other great loves were his many feline companions – from the time he was a toddler until his passing Tony had cats in his life. He would say that it won't be heaven, unless his cats are there to meet him. Tony had a full life, he enjoyed traveling but was happiest at home with a cat on his lap. He enjoyed a good party, but he also found joy in hours of comfortable solitude working in his library.
There are no words to express how much Martha, Hannah and her husband Jacob Miles, and the other members of our family will miss him; Sylvia and Joseph Pappalardo, Julia and Robert Hermann, Nadine Narog, Edward and Judith O'Brien, Kathleen and James Fawcett, and Maryanne Woods, and his numerous nieces and nephews, and especially his favorite cookie maker and Christmas village companion, Julia K. Ridel.
Until we meet again T., we will hear your voice when the music is playing and remember your stories as we sit around the table.
If you would like to make a charitable contribution in Tony's name please donate to: FD/MAS Alliance at PO Box 1199, 4701 Sangamore Rd Ste 100N Bethesda, MD 20816-2558 or to the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, Inc.,103 Vision Way, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
Burial will be private. A service honoring Tony's life will be scheduled at a later date. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Anthony, please visit our Tree Store.
