Lyle "Corky" Wells
June 26, 1941 - October 26, 2025
Lyle "Corky" Wells went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at his home in
Rush, Kentucky, with his wife by his side.
Born June 26, 1 941, in Rush to Truman and Thelma Wells, Corky grew up with a strong back, a quick smile, and a heart willing to help anyone. At age 11 he was already hitching up horses and plowing neighbors' gardens for a dollar - the first sign of the work ethic that would shape his entire life.
Corky was known across Carter County for being the man you could count on- the one who'd stop what he was doing to lend a hand.
He loved the outdoors: hunting, raising horses and squirrel dogs, or simply sitting around a campfire swapping stories with family and friends. His humor was legendary, his advice often freely given and practical ("Work hard!"). He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Leeland Wells; a granddaughter, Missy Perkins; and two grandsons, Thomas Wells and Logan Dailey; three brother -in- laws, Grant Holley, Tobe Badgett, and Eugene Wilburn.
Corky leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Teri Wells, two sisters, Aloma Wilburn of Rush and Adele Holley of Rush, eight children - Shannon (Dawn) Wells of Catlettsburg, Patricia (Terry) Dolin of South Point, Ohio, Thomas (Tina) Wells of Ashland, and William Wells of Grayson, Medley (Michelle) Thompson of Ashland, Jeremy (Cindy) Thompson of Ashland, Kara (Chris) Feller of Rush, and Karl (Eulala) Thompson of South Shore.
He also leaves a legacy of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many others who knew him as "Papaw Corky" and who will keep his stories alive for generations.
Having been the social person he was, Corky leaves behind many friends and hunting buddies who thought of him as family.
Corky's family will remember him as a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great- grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend -a man who worked hard and loved deep.
"Will the circle be unbroken"... until we're together again...
