Cortney Lee Medlock, affectionately known as "Cort Cort," passed away on June 28, 2024, in his hometown of Fort Smith, Arkansas, at the age of 40. Born on June 20, 1984 in Fort Smith, Cortney was a cherished presence in the lives of his family and friends, known for his boundless generosity and charismatic spirit. He was also preceded in death by his father: Earl Dickerson, Jr.
Cortney attended Darby Jr. High School followed by Northside High School, where he formed many lifelong friendships. Cortney enjoyed working. He worked for many different establishments, including the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, George's Restaurant, and Baptist Health Medical Center where he was respected for his work ethic and camaraderie.
A devoted father, Cortney was deeply invested in the future and well-being of his children, particularly his son Justice, for whom he aspired to create a lasting legacy. His entrepreneurial spirit was evident in his various business endeavors, which he hoped to pass down to his children.
His personal life was enriched by his hobbies, which included producing and listening to music. Cortney also hosted a monthly podcast where he discussed a wide range of life's events, reflecting his thoughtful and engaging nature.
Cortney gave his life to Christ at a young age and recommitted this year. Cortney was a pillar in his community, attended Southpointe Church under the leadership of Pastor Lee Prince (a beloved classmate), where he found spiritual fulfillment and fellowship. Known for his ability to connect with anyone, Cortney never hesitated to offer help, whether it was giving someone the shirt off his back or a pair of shoes. His humor and ability to make people laugh were among his most beloved traits, often saying, "If he can make a woman laugh, he will have her for life."
He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, deeply missed by his mother: Kathy Dickerson; his son: Justice Carter Medlock; his beloved sisters: Juanika Medlock and Ebony Dickerson; brother: Kori Dickerson; his uncle and role model: Douglas Medlock; his aunts: Marion "Vicky" Medlock and Anita "Babysister" Andrews; bonus children: Malichi York, Tommy York, Syreniti Lawson, Navani Hardin, Shykira Sampson, Neymah Moore, and his many cousins, who were more like siblings. Cortney's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the deep bonds of family. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who knew him.
