So sorry to read of Dale's passing. We were good friends when I was in high school and college. I benefitted from Dale and Jim Franzen waiting to get those Who tickets. I well remember us going to that concert.
Dale talked me into signing up for a charity bikeathon. Little did I know he intended to ride over one hundred miles. It was a lot of fun, even if I was sore for days afterwards.

Photos from around 1970 or 1971.
I once took Dale for a 'ride-along' in the Sheagren Pharmacy VW beetle delivery car so that he could learn to drive a stick shift in preparation for Porsche ownership. It was wintertime, and he spun the VW out on a slippery street in Boulder Hill. We didn't hit anything (thank God) but this VW that said "Sheagren's" in large letters on both sides wound up on somebody's front lawn.
We high-tailed it out of there!

I went to high school with Dale. One summer we rode our bicycles from Aurora/Montgomery to Springfield IL and back in a week. We both loved Porsches. What a great friend he was. Here's a photo of Dale with his new Porsche 914 2.0. We once slept overnight in front of the old Chicago Stadium on the sidewalk waiting for the box office to open the next day so we could get tickets to see The Who. It rained that night...

I wanted to share a few memories of growing up with Dale. If you have
some to add, I'd love to hear them!
Dale always had so much energy, he would jump down the stairs to the
landing, then jump to the basement sometimes running and swinging around
the pole in the basement. He'd drum his fingers on the counter top in
the kitchen while waiting for his food to be ready. Once I asked him for
money to go to the store with my friends to get candy. He gave me a ten
which I couldn't re-pay. He told Mom and Dad and it resulted in me
getting an allowance, I must have been around 11 years old.
When I was 13 he took me to see Linda Ronstadt in concert with his
friend Danny Fect. We went out for deep dish pizza, my 1st time trying
that. He also took me to see the movie, Le mons a race car movie
starring Steve Mcqueen. He sometimes picked me up from high school in
his Porche, boy did I feel cool! He bought an old Volkswagen bug for
winter driving, so as not to mess up his fancy car. At the end of the
winter, the car was so bad, he and his buddies took a sledge hammer to it.
Of course, his drumming was a big part of his life, I remember him
drumming in Sing Out Aurora, a branch of Up With People, we'd go to
watch him and I learned all of the songs. I probably would have joined
if I'd been old enough at the time. Once while playing with them at a
school, he walked through a glass window in a dark hallway, luckily just
a few stitches were needed. His drums were set up in the corner of the
basement. When Mom and Dad were out of town, he was instructed not to
have any wild parties. Well, he did have a party and someone kicked a
hole in his closet door. Dale thought he'd disguise it and taped a small
poster over it. Of course, that was the 1st thing Dad noticed when he
got home, he was busted!
He and his friend Jim Franzen took a trip to Springfield Illinois on
their 10 speed bikes. They ate dried astronaut food and wore holes in
the seat of their jeans. He slept for at least a day when they got home.
Dale had such a great sense of humor. He entertained us in Florida, the
kids especially, making up daring adventures that when you got through
the reward was a pin. Shortly after, Peggy donated her kidney to Bill,
it was quite hard on her, Bill felt better instantly, I thought Peggy
would kick the bucket. She made it through, and sure enough, they gave
her a pin!
In the birthday card I sent him this year, I told him he would live
forever, of course not knowing he was sick. Well, that still stands only
now he will live forever in our hearts.

Here´s my big memory. Once when we were kids and mom and dad had sent us for swimming lessons somewhere - the Y? East High? I don´t know - in the summer. Dale and I had class at the same time but different groups. I had just learned to dive in from the side into the deep end that day. The end of the class was called and everyone was getting out to file into locker rooms. I was having so much fun I decided to do one more dive. I waited till the instructor wasn´t watching. After I dove in I went very deep and got confused, couldn´t tell which direction was up and I panicked. Then I felt a hand on my arm guiding me up to the surface till my head came out of the water and I could take a breath. I was actually not too far below the surface. I looked at who helped me and it was Dale! He told me when the end of class whistle blew and his instructor walked away he did a cannonball and hid at the bottom of the pool to get a little more pool time. Then he saw me floundering and came and pulled me to the surface. Of course then he got very cocky and started telling me how he saved my life, which he may well have done, as we were the only two in the pool area by that time. I wouldn´t admit it and told him I was ok, but actually I was very grateful. We were very bratty towards each other at that time! That incident gave me a fear of water which I never got over till I started scuba diving many years later. And I always remembered how my brother Dale saved my life. Love you Dale! Your sister Peggy
