Daniel Colvin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose & Hughes Funeral Home on Feb. 28, 2025.
Daniel Colvin Obituary Daniel (Dan) E. Colvin, son of Robert and Margaret Colvin, was born on November 30, 1947, in Amsterdam, N.Y. He passed away peacefully at his home, with his bride of 58 years and his family by his side, on October 6, 2024. After graduating from Canajoharie High School in 1965, Dan enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps, served in Vietnam, and returned to the Capital district in 1971, where he became a very proud Union Ironworker. He served over 50 years as a member of Local 12 (Albany), Local 15, Local 40 (NYC), and Ironworkers District Council of Western NY, and was known for his tenacity and straightforward personality.
A devoted husband, Dan cherished his wife (and best friend), Ann, and his children and grandchildren. Known for his unique "old school" personality, Dan was respected by many for his old-fashioned view of what life in America used to be like and about what being a good American is about. He valued hard-work, dedication, organized labor, and love of country.
Dan will be remembered not only for his accomplishments and skills but also for his lifelong love affair with his teenage sweetheart and wife of nearly 58 years. They were inseparable (sometimes to a fault) and shared countless adventures together. Whether on the shores of Connecticut, their annual trek to Fort Lauderdale by the Sea, or frequent stops at his local VFW (Post 942), Loopies Irish Pub, American Legion (Post 701), or the Eagles, he will be remembered, in part, by his stories and his unique sense of humor. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Over the past 30 years, Dan volunteered time as a core member of VFW Post 942 and served as the Post Commander from 2018 to 2022.
He is survived by his wife Ann, daughter, Christine Douglas (Rick), and his son, Dan Colvin Jr (Kelly), and grandchildren: Danielle (Karl), Brandon (Cait), Dan (Jessica), Ryan (Sammy), Casey, Jake (Zhenya), and Jenna (Dustin), great grandson, Tyler, son in law, Bob, several special nieces, nephews, and cousins, brother Frances Colvin, and brother and sister in law, Al and Bonnie Messie, who all will forever cherish the memory of him. Dan is predeceased by his brother Robert Colvin (Glenna).
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Dans family, Friday, October 11, 2024, 11:00am to 2:00p.m., at Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, N.Y. 12010. The American Legion Post #701 will conduct a service at 11:00AM to begin the calling period on Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held immediately following the calling period at 2:00 PM. A procession will follow to Canajoharie, where Dan will be laid to rest with military honors, at Canajoharie Falls cemetery. A celebration of Dans life will be held afterward at VFW Post 942, Fonda, NY, located at 2495 NY-30A, Fonda, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to VFW Post 942, Fonda, NY 12068. To leave a message for the family, please visit, www.roseandhughesfh.com
