Darrell W. Root

Loving husband, father, brother and grandfather
Darrell W. Root, 81 of Nutley, passed away on October 22, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Flint, Michigan, he resided in Nutley for the past 50 years. Darrell was the son of the late, Wayne and Donna (Reed) Root. He retired from Tropicana as a special operations manager, prior to that he was an independent truck driver. He was a veteran of the US Army, a past Commander of the VFW Post 493, Nutley, a past District 4 commander, past VFW Chief of Staff of New Jersey, past Exalted Ruler of Belleville Elks, and a member of the American Legion Post 105.
Darrell was an avid Dallas Cowboys and New York Mets fan. He enjoyed his annual Wildwood trips and BBQ's with his family and friends.
Darrell is survived by his daughter Kelly Dolasco and her husband Peter, his son Randy Root and his wife Kimberly, his son in law Peter Rasmussen, and his grandchildren Tiffany and Stephanie Dolasco, Dana Rotio, Samantha and Christian Rasmussen, Lena and Billy Edwards, Hailey and Cameron Root; and his loving brother Ronald Root and his wife Judith. He is also survived by his many loving nieces, nephews and close friends.
Darrell is predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Ann (Cordero), his daughter, Marie Rasmussen and his brothers, Larry, Gary, and Ray.
