David Bailey, 51, of Indianapolis, died September 20, 2025. A simple man who lived a simple life, he was a sweet, quiet soul. He was an unassuming, no-frills kind of guy who always rooted for the underdog. David was loyal to a fault, especially with his life-long friends. Always observant and aware of his surroundings, his child-like curiosity formed his views, although he held strong opinions from which he never wavered. David loved to cook and had a passion for gardening, especially his home-grown Indiana tomatoes – no store-bought tomatoes for David! Bob Dylan was his favorite artist. He loved the Colts.

David attended Southport High School in Indianapolis but graduated from Southlakes High School in 1992 in Reston, Virginia, where his mother lived. He had never wanted to move to Virginia to finish school because he believed he didn't need to graduate. He wanted only to go to work in the concrete business for his dad back in Indy. The day after he graduated, he bolted back to Indianapolis, to his mother's dismay. David always said he was taught by the best: his father and grandfather. As a third-generation concrete worker, David believed nobody could do a job in concrete better than they could. He had a passion for his work and at one time owned his own concrete business. He lived, loved, and worked on the southside of Indianapolis for the majority of his life.

David is preceded in death by his father, Harold K. Bailey; his beloved brother Dennis R. Bailey; his infant niece, Kendra Fisher; grandparents; and numerous uncles on both sides of his family.

He is survived by his mom, Nancy L. Carrithers; his step-father, Doug Carrithers; a step-brother, Kyle Bailey; niece Bailey Mitchell; as well aunts, uncles, cousins, and other nieces and nephews.

A service honoring David will be held Friday, September 26, at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 – 1:00, with a service following at 1:00.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Colts Connection Center in Indianapolis, which "supports housing and resources for people recovering from substance abuse and mental health disorders."
