David Lee Bertram, age 92, of Greenwood, passed away Monday morning, January 27, 2025.
David was born in Indianapolis on May 26, 1932, to the late Raymond Clay Bertram, Sr. and Ruth Bingham Bertram. He was a 1950 graduate of Southport High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana Central University and his master's degree from Butler University. On September 21, 1951, he married the love of his life, Alberta Derrett Bertram, who precedes him in death. A lifelong southside resident, David was a teacher, administrator and basketball coach for many years at Southport High School. He also taught and coached basketball for several years at Perry Meridian High School and retired from there. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and visiting his daughter and grandkids in Colorado. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his sons, David A. Bertram of Newnan, GA, and Howard Bertram (Donna) of Concord, NC; seven grandchildren, Jessica Smith (Jason), Matthew Bertram, Sarah Mozingo (Evan), Ross Bertram, Reid Bertram, Corbie Dabney and Casey Michael (Karli); and 10 great grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, daughter, Gail Bertram, and brother, Ray Bertram, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, at 11:30AM Singleton and St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, 7602 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 10AM until the time of service. Burial and military honors will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Greenwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in David Bertram's memory to The Southport Alumni Association.
