David M. "Chappy" Chappron, of Braintree, formerly of Hull, a cherished soul whose kindness and love touched the lives of many, passed away unexpectedly on May 2, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on September 6, 1957, in Boston, David was the son of the late George "Duke" and Marilyn "Maddy" (Kennedy) Chappron. His life was a testament to the power of love, commitment, and service.
David was the beloved husband of Beverly (O'Connell) Chappron. He and Beverly shared a remarkable marriage marked by unwavering love, deep friendship, and mutual respect. Through every season of life, they stood side by side, supporting each other with kindness, laughter, and strength. Their bond was a shining example of devotion, inspiring everyone who knew them. Enjoying a simple walk around the block, a quiet ride to Nantasket Beach or an evening in their backyard oasis was more than enough as long as they were by each other's side. Together, they built a life rich in love, family, and cherished memories that will live on forever. He was a loving father to Michelle Metro and her husband Robert of Braintree, Jill DiTocco and her husband Michael of Braintree, Brittney McRae and her husband Ian of Hanover, and David Chappron, Jr. and his partner Daniel Pavlinski of Braintree. He instilled the values of selflessness, the importance of family and how to live life to the fullest.
David was a devoted brother to James Devno and his wife Patty of Plymouth, and he held close the memory of his late siblings Nancy McGraw and Paul Chappron. He was also the cherished "Papa" to Gianna, Sharon, Alessandra, Nicolas, Siena, Dylan, Jaxon, and Madison, whose lives he enriched with love, wisdom, and playful spirit. His role as a grandfather was one he held with great pride and joy.
David was a man of intelligence and determination. He graduated from Hull High School in the Class of 1976. David went on to follow in the footsteps of his brother James, attending Mass Maritime Academy. Being an alumni to Mass Maritime was one of the highlights of David's life. Also, he furthered his education with a master's degree from Cambridge College. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career. David proudly served his country in the United States Navy, a period of his life that he always reflected on with honor. He later worked as an engineer for G.E., which became Baker Hughes, an energy technology company. His work ethic and dedication to his profession were admired by his peers and colleagues.
An exceptional athlete, David played basketball in high school and college, and his passion for the sport continued throughout his life. He had a profound love for Braintree Youth Sports and spent over 25 years coaching basketball at all levels including youth, travel, and AAU. His mentorship and guidance shaped the lives of countless young athletes.
David's interests extended beyond the basketball court. He was an avid golfer, reveling in the camaraderie of the game and the beauty of the courses. Traveling was another joy, with annual family vacations to Martha's Vineyard and semi annual trips to Disney World, that were planned alongside of his equally Disney enthusiastic sister in law, Kathy O'Conell, being among his favorite destinations. These trips provided cherished moments of adventure and relaxation with his loved ones.
Above all, David valued the time spent with family and friends. An ideal day would be spending time around the pool with his family and childhood friends the "DC" club, to which David belonged, including Dan, Rick, Micheal, Stevie, and Jeff. Whether it was a casual backyard barbecue or a festive holiday gathering, he was the heart of every occasion, radiating warmth and friendliness.
David Chappron will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. His kind and friendly nature made him a beloved figure in his community. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him in return. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created will continue to bring comfort and smiles to all who were fortunate to have known him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, May 8th, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 9th, at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 72 Washington Street, Weymouth. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

Dearest Beverly,
There are no words that can express how I feel for you and your family. David was wonderfully kind warm and had such a great sense of humor. His sense of family and us family of friends was so deep and appreciated. We all knew how much we meant to him and how very much he meant to all of us. We love you,
Andrea

I offer my sincere condolences to the surviving family members and close personal friends of Dave "Chap" Chappron. I knew Dave in the late 1960s and early to mid-1970s when we both were growing up in Hull. Although we hung around with a different group of kids, I played varsity basketball with Dave at Hull High School under Coach Joe Menice and competed against him periodically in the Hull Summer Basketball League played at night at the outdoor Kenberma Basketball court. Dave was a great guy, a great teammate, a tough opponent and a good sport. He conducted himself appropriately and always treated everyone he encountered with dignity and respect. He was definitely a credit to the Town of Hull and all its residents. After I graduated from Hull High School in 1975, I´d occasionally see Dave in the summer months on the Kenberma Courts when we were both on semester break from college, but truthfully I lost track of him by 1980 when I entered the Army on active duty. I was proud to learn much later-and it came as no surprise to me-Dave completed his degree at Mass Maritime Academy, had a successful career in the Navy and after leaving the military, eventually got married and with his wife raised a wonderful family. Or that Dave eventually returned to live on the South Shore and got involved in a big way supporting youth basketball and other youth sports programs in Braintree. I´m glad I got to know Dave many years ago. He was a really good person. May he R.I.P.
